As luck would have it, I found a second copy of the same Pitman pressing, but in VG+ condition.
This copy is pressed slightly hotter.

If you are new to jazz or to Miles Davis, don't start here. Pick up "Someday My Prince Will Come" or "Kind of Blue" or "Bags Groove" and dig into something more palatable. As much as I love the '59 Miles Quintet, with its luscious consonance and superstar cast, my ear is more drawn to this '67 matching of Miles with Wayne Shorter, Herbie, Ron, and Tony. These gents are are really exploring the space and playing off each other with brilliance. Footprints is an obvious standout. Seemingly a medium jazz waltz form, Ron and Tony use every V chord cadence to weave beautifully through standard 3/4, double time 3/4, 4/4, and even half-time(2 feel). It is brilliant and slightly tongue-in-cheek, as they convert the out-head to 4/4.

"Circle" is a gorgeous ballad, with some incredible piano work from Herbie. My fave is "Freedom Jazz Dance", with its stacked fourths and choppy, sinewy head phrases.

I could ramble on, but I won't. What a great sounding record. Recommended.
