Got this copy 69$ sealed, I have since opened it and must say the pressing plays amazing, I don’t have others to compare it to tho. So glad I got it at a steal of a price.

At the risk of lowering the "value" of my own Bandana VMP press... I gotta be straight and share some facts. It’s the exact same master as the standard version and it's nearly an identical package. The jacket, sleeve, weight.... everything about the release is the same with these few exceptions:
-VMP sticker on the outside shrink wrap (essentially worthless)
-Foil Stamp / Numbered on the back corner (cool)
-Color Variant (cool)
-Alternate cover- "Hollywood" Sign changed to "Hollyweed". Pinata flipped
Pretty standard A/B testing reveals that the audio quality is the EXACT same (it's also fairly obvious even without a A/B type setup). OK, so what, nothing new here. People love their color variants. But, the major problem that I have with this is that the standard version isn’t exactly a quality package to begin with. The jacket is flimsy as ****. The mastering isn’t crisp on wax either (yea yea i get that it’s supposed to be lo-fi and madlib supposedly created the album on his iPad, blah blah etc. thats not what i mean at all). Anyone who says Bandana on wax “sounds amazing” is [redacted… let's stay positive]. My point is that it doesn’t really jump off like you would want anything on a vinyl pressing to be. Yea it’s numbered and yeah the color is "cool"… I think we were all just hoping for more (like…. 180g at the very very least). Anyone who cares about sound over the rest of the vinyl BS will be disappointed, especially if you are now taking time and $$ scouting this version on the open market. Please don’t pay a gouger some crazy amount second hand. Am I happy that I bought it for face value? sure. Would I spend more than $30 on this. Not a chance.
By far better options would be getting the Bernie Grundman Test Pressing (which despite the no frills packaging is one of the better Hip-Hop records cut to wax that you'll hear). -

Edited 5 years agoHow's the mastering/sound on this? Wondering if it's any different from the Rappcats exclusive...
