100 gecs provides one of the most openly experimental projects, taking aspects of pop, deconstructed club, dubstep, hip-hop, the list goes on. This album is so obscure yet so fucking catchy. It gives me a lot of SOPHIE and Kero Kero Bonito vibes. Combining Dylan Brady’s obscure production style and really silly or strange samples with Laura Les’ vocal delivery is a listen that will have you confused, but still very captivated. This is definitely not a very easy listen, especially if you come from a lot of very standard pop music. 1000 gecs is an album that takes pop, puts it in a blender of electronic influences and somehow comes out sounding bubbly and danceable. There, unfortunately, are some dry spots that really take away from this already very short album. With a run time of only 23 minutes tracks like ‘I Need Help Immediately’ feel a bit like time wasters. There’s a lot of quality, but stuff like that waters the album down a bit. 100 gecs is in the very early stages of their career, and I want to see what more they will release in the future. They have a very obscure style that I hope stays but they have a bit of cleaning up to do in of musical direction.
