Jori Hulkkonen's third full-length, WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING WE ARE INVISIBLE kicks off with the mellow downtempo of "If Only" but the smooth house quickly resumes with "Interstate of Love," a track that verges on poppy. The spoken word on "The Moment" also gives Hulkkonen's work a new texture, even if that particular spoken word isn't too inspiring; the near-tropical accompaniment underneath, however, holds more interest. The disco flourishes on "Flash Boy" are kept on a low filter, which helps them be less ostentatious, while the jazz on "Confusion" takes center stage with a broken beat vibe. But "Versus" delves into the upbeat, melodic house with which Hulkkonen made his name, while "Wanna Do You" and "Let Me Luv U" pick up a bit of soul from their respective samples. But the standout track with doubtless "Back When We Was Attached," an emotional journey that balances a moody piano line with a looped flute and some guitar textures. Sublime, and worth the price of the album.

Bought this because the single "Back when we was attached" was so great, but nearly every track on the album is not at all like that single. There's a ton of spoken word, downtempo, and just nonsense tracks on this album. Such a bummer!
