Edited 2 months agoI agree with the positive reviews, it doesn’t sound as bad as I thought it would ! I may even say it is more silent than some proper vinyl records I own. The background noise is only noticeable at the very beginning of each face and between tracks, you can definitely play it loud. Powerful bass too. Glad I didn’t splurge and buy an original pressing ! The copyrights on the back of my copy are rearranged in two lines (as opposed to three) but runouts do match.

Edited 2 months agoSurface noise is only really noticeable when listening with headphones but is rather jarring with some of the more quiet songs (ala Stranger In Moscow, Childhood, etc.). ignoring this, the pressing still sounds great for a picture disc.
-
My copy sounds fantastic, no surface noise. I've wanted to add this album to my collection for a long time, pleased with my choice.

Edited 2 years agoI also received this picturedisk NEW from factory. The sound is kinda awful. Not happy with the mastering at all - its very "thin" sound and soft. Also lots of background crackling noise - which just is confirming my thoughts about this pressing: it's bad. Ofcourse the picturedisk standard background noise is not helping too. But this is familiair when you buy a picturedisk. If you buy this for the music: don't do it - just listen it on spotify instead hahaha - Nice to create 2 MJ clocks and nice for the fans. But not nice for the audiofreaks. Awful... Also sleeve is awful. The sleeve will "eat" the vinyl after long period. Wrong plastic used. If you are not getting irritated by background noise; this release is acceptable. So i give this release 2/5 rating ...

I was expecting so much worse. I got the typical whirry surface noise before/between tracks but I can't notice it at all during songs, and all-in all it actually sounds really good. I made the right choice vs. paying £400 for an origial pressing.

Mastering is cool and picture disc is very aesthetic, but god it sounds noisy. This music deserves better.
-
visually the two vinyl are cool.the mastering is good ,but too much surface noise.i should have know better and wait for a proper reissue of the album.history continues is an underrated album of mj canon.it deserves better.

The sound is typical picture disc. I’ve heard worse (freedom ‘90) but heard much better from a picture disc. Well overpriced in the uk not sure it’s even worth the 20 something pound I paid for it. Sleeve is terrible design and some of the pictures don’t translate that well to 12 inches. Money making fan ripping off exercise
