This, in my opinion, is as great as Made in Japan. If you are looking for a super heavy metal album, look no further than this epic album! Tracks like Burn, You Fool No one, and Lady Double Dealer, are full on Heavy Metal! Similar to Smoke on the Water and Highway Star on Made in Japan, in that these live tracks are more metallic than on the studio Machine Head album, the same can be said for the songs on Made in Europe - they are all much more metallic sounding! You Fool No one blows the studio version out of the water! Blackmores guitar solos are about the heaviest metal sounding I have ever heard on any Deep Purple record / CD. Same with Burn and Lady Double Dealer!! Very cool album!!

Ending their first run as a world dominating hard rock act, Deep Purple released their first of many posthumous archival recordings with a sequel of sorts to their landmark double live LP ‘Made in Japan’ as the various of the short lived Mark IV line-up went their separate ways (unfortunately not the case for guitarist Tommy Bolin who ed away). ‘Made in Europe’ actually featured Ritchie Blackmore and was recorded during his last tour with the band in early spring 1975. While it may not hold a candle to the previous live magnum opus, ‘Europe’ does feature a best of from the Mark III era and choice cuts from those two records, including both title tracks. “Burn” is amazing here and as anyone who has seen the California Jam footage would testify, rightfully deserves its place among earlier Purple classics. I also love the version of “Mistreated” here as Blackmore absolutely rules the world no matter how the song might meander on. All band , including Coverdale and Hughes, sound great and you would hardly think that a split was in the offing from their mercurial guitar player but there you go. There have been other archival releases documenting more of this era but ‘Made in Europe’, as a single LP, is more digestible I guess. Lady double dealer get out of my way!.......

As I understand it. The reason this release has the mk4 label is that the pressing plant used up left over labels from the recently released mk4 single "You Keep on Moving". When these were used up they reverted to the standard Puple label.

Richie's riffs and solos on this one are very sharp, clear and well performed. A brilliant album. Just bought it today at a flea market for 2 euros 50cents. It's an original 1976s UK pressing.
