Hard to resist any Henry Threadgill album that has a song called "Spotted Dick Is Pudding" on it... mine has a gold promo only stamp on the lower left rear cover... when I was DJing somebody gave us a stack of these, like 12 copies, so pretty much everybody I knew who had a record player got a Henry Threadgill album for Christmas that year. It's pretty good record actually, from a musician who is still criminally underrated.

Of the three albums made by Threadgill Sextett, this one has the most variety on it. Threadgill is of course a master composer, arranger with a great talent for composing big bold themes for a mid size ensemble, these bands were often call "little big bands", they combine complex structure with freedom for the soloists. Also notably there is a vocal feature for indian singer Asha Puthli. Still highly colorful, creative and imaginative writing and playing over 30 years later.
