Seems to be mixed reviews here. My 2 cents: the pressing sounds great. Clear, loud. Is it a bit 'grimy' or (forgive me) 'grungy'? Yes, I think it is. But seems on purpose and goes with Mark's style just fine. I feel Mark's solo work is more akin to Leonard Cohen's work. You're in it for the voice and poetry. The music is a nice backdrop.

My pressing is ok, sounds clear with Mark´s voice being prominent in the mix, as he wanted to. I listened to a podcast with him around the time this one was released and it seemed there was a previous mix he hated it and it wasnt released.

When is he gonna drop this producer. How can you make Lanegan sound like a poor imitation of AIR. After the first two tracks it felt like I was in the 1990's and lost all interest. Very mediocre.

Edited 7 years agoDAMN! The sound is so horrible on this, it's unacceptable. The instruments are given no clarity at all and Lanegans voice is featured prominently but even that sounds compressed and distorted. I think it has to do with the heavy electronic instrumentation and myriad of effects used. It sounds like the music is coming from behind a cement wall. It sounds really bad which is unfortunate cuz this album is amazing. There are literally no dynamics on this record, it's just a bland swell of sound. I really hope this isn't how Lanegan hopes this record should sound. I would avoid this by any cost. Sounds like a low res source was used to create this cut. Shoulda got with Reznor and done this right. This record could greatly benefit from the dynamics and emotional depth Reznor brings to his mastering craft of electronic infused music. Probably one of the worst presses I've ever heard. Still this album is stellar for the songwriting alone. Every track is a killer.

Edited 7 years agoAbsolutely brilliant record from Lanegan again, his consistency and output is amazing, Gargoyle being right up there with his best work. Also, have to mention ex-Pearl Jam drummer Jack Irons doing a great job on this one too. My favourite album of 2017 so far..

Mine came without a code, even though there was the sticker saying there should be one. It was shrink wrapped. Anyone else got this problem ?

Edited 8 years agoAnyone know what the Red is exclusive to? My copy is a record store exclusive white (limited to 400 I'm told).
