Mariah Carey – Daydream

Music sounds great, disc is fairly noisy tho, a couple scratches even tho it’s brand new. Not unlistenable, I still v much enjoy my copy, just something to keep in mind

The vinyl sounds pretty good. I really enjoyed listening to this album again.

By far my favourite Mariah album (Butterfly and Music Box are not far behind, and I also like Me I Am Mariah). This LP is not very loud but it sounds good. I have two major gripes.
I have the original European LP from 1995, which sounds warmer and slightly louder, and I much prefer that edition for the sound, though this reissue is perfectly good for those that missed out on that release.
My other complaint is the quality of the artwork. What a fail. The sepia tone of the original was not reproduced. Instead the images are pure black and white and Mariah’s face looks too bright with her lips being way darker and the details under her eyes are almost non-existent. The dark is too dark and the light is too light. It looks wrong. The original sleeve displays way better. It is a shame they didn’t make more effort with the reissue.

Sounds good overall but I have the original European LP from 1995 and that one sounds way better. This reissue has one other problem is the artwork. The original album had a sepia tone for the photos, but this just looks like a black and white photocopy. You can compare this with the images of the original LP sleeve or even the CD’s and cassettes that were issued at the time. The original sleeve looks much better than this look effort. The music itself sounds good but I think the original LP was warmer.

my copy is silent, there are no pops, although the volume is very low. I expected more from this pressing but it generally sounds good.

Not sure about all the complaining about mastering...on my austen this actually sounds fantastic. Deep bass, vocals crystal clear. No surface noise at all and no pops, crackle. It does need to be cranked a bit higher to get all the dynamics, so maybe people are listening to this too softly... this album is meant to be cranked for sure. Don't worry about the neighbors judging. The packaging is a bit meh with the only extra being the gold leaf details. Don't know what more you could ask for.

I compared 2020 US version against this. A lot of surface noise is detected on the MC30 release. No surface noise was detected in VMP release, however, the sound was not remastered, then it is flat and some vocals are not highlighted, however, sound is ok.

The sound is beautiful and much more detailed, powerful and dynamic than the reissues. From a sound quality perspective, this pressing wins hands down. There are details here that you can’t hear elsewhere. The one thing I will say is that the inner sleeve is a bit flimsy compared with the reissues, but as far as sound quality is concerned, this original pressing is unbeatable. Make sure though that you grab a copy in good condition and that you have a high quality stylus and overall system. It’s a long record to fit into two sides only. If your system is not up for it or the record is not well taken care of, you are bound to hear some distortion and sibilancenat the end of each side. But if the record is NM- and you have a high quality stylus, the uptick in price is definitely worth it.

Great pressing!! Don't believe those reviews claiming otherwise, they're probably from people with poor equipment.
This pressing, like all VMP releases I own, is dead quiet, no surface noise whatsoever.

The only complaint I have is that they should have included an inner sleeve. Wonder why they didn't, since their other Mariah releases do have one.

But otherwise, if you want Mariah's Daydream album on vinyl, this is the one!!

The volume on this record is quite low and the sound seems a bit flat, for lack of a better word. There is very little surface noise, although it is noticeable towards the end of side B. I wouldn't say the sound is bad by any means but I am a bit disappointed and I would recommend sticking to digital for this album if you're after sound quality.
