Donovan – The Hurdy Gurdy Man

Hyperbole time!

Yep... like a new experience for me having only ever had the mono CD and a noisy Sundazed vinyl. This is soooo much more rich and juicy and sweet. While its still not an audiophile recording its surely the best this has ever sounded. Finally abit of meat on the bones and realism in the sounds!

Absolutely phenomenal pressing. I’ve never heard this album sound so clear. Gives me a whole new appreciation for a lot of the lesser-known songs. This is the one.

The wizards at Impex have done it again. Sounds amazing. High quality. Best I’ve ever heard the album personally.

The mastering on this release is pretty stunning. It's hard not to be pleased with the sound of this release. However, my copy had serious scuffing on S1 and oily fingerprinting on S2 along with mild warping. This was, as always, fully cleaned in advance. In this case, running it through my Degritter MKII. So I'll try another copy, hope for the best, and report back here with the results.

It really is as good as miamispins says. The record is less compressed and more dynamic than the OG. I hope Impex will do more Donovan albums.

Sounds every bit as good as you’d like it to. The title track is always a song that I think there is some hidden 4th dimension to that I’m just not hearing and will hear in the next remaster and it never quite gets all the way there. That is still the case with this issue, but it still sounds really nice. The drums certainly do pop. The rest of the tracks range from as good as the original stereo issue to much much better and more holographic than the original stereo issue. Also sounds much better to my ear than the Sundazed mono. Really excellent, great job by IMPEX.

Does this issue have the orange target label? Or the later black/blue script logo label?

I've owned several pressings of this wonderful album, and this is easily the best I've heard — really rich-sounding with a lot of sonic detail that the others didn't have.

These late seventies pressings without barcode on the back are excellent sounding. Don't these up if you see them in the used bins in nice shape.
