Bangles – All Over The Place

While I know David Kahne gets a lot of pushback for his treatment of artists, but this is a gorgeous sounding LP.

This remaster sounds very good, if not top notch. I'd prefer just a little more punch. The sweet vocals and catchy tunes are fully intact. Many of these songs have a touch of country flavor, a litte mellower than their norm, but still infectious.

If you're a bit "meh" over The Bangles' big hits, as I am, and wish they hadn't been so hampered by heavy-handed eighties production, you're in for a treat with 'All Over the Place'. It has a great garagey spirit, fierce playing, and top-notch vocal contributions from everyone in the band. Debbie really stands out with her take on Katrina and the Waves' "Going Down to Liverpool", but there isn't a bum track on this album. Their debut EP, recorded before Michael Steele ed, is fab too.

All Over The Place was released in 1984 and became the Bangles full length debut, having been preceded by a self titled EP released in 1982.

This album is not as creative as any of their other releases, but it does feature a great but minor hit single in "Hero Takes A Fall" and a rendition of Katrina and the Waves' "Going Down To Liverpool" (a music video featured an infamous cameo by Star Trek mainstay Leonard Nimoy).

Columbia invested increasingly in the all female combo, and in 1986, Different Light would be released, elevating The Bangles to a household name.

Very good album. No radio play favorites on it, but that is perfectly fine with me. Susanna Hoffs sure makes the Rickenbacker twang sound good.

Almost every song of the album All Over The Place had its music video that made it very popular! A best-selling status is believed to reflect the popularity of Bangles too, and, telling the truth, their tracks were being loved by a lot of people over the world. Guitar... Guitar, which took their hits higher, and showed to the fans like the songs—All About You, Dover Beach, Going Down To Liverpool and many many more—to be refined. Who can forget the Bangles' before-and-after success?

The music is great as expected and there are good tracks on this album that aren't on any greatest hits albums. The pressing is good with very little surface noise.

My copy has a slightly different label in that at the bottom it just says "CBS TM CBS INC."
