I have a copy in archive condition with new numbers. I thought it was a different release. No. It only fits here. Or is it a different edition altogether. Please advise, experts.

I can’t exactly when I bought this 1997 Vinyl Revival Collector's Edition but it must be over the last 20 years. It was Miles first album for Warners, and was produced by LiPuma and Markus Miller and I used to think it was too click-clack with all the synths. But it’s an album that rewards with repeated listening. It’s a deep and complex album and there’s a Weather Report vibe there too.

This 24-bit 192-kHz remaster, issued 28 years after its debut, sounds amazing. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. This sounds like one of those High Dynamic Range albums - there doesn't seem to be any compression at all. The sound can be as smooth as glass or as sharp as a razor, as the music dictates. Excellent!

OK guys, the REAL question is... does this beat the TML/Doug Sax-mastered original pressings? I have a near-mint Allied original and don't see anything beating it.
Anyone who's compared them directly, I'd like to know. And if so, how are they different? -
Excellent dynamics, like all the Rhino Hi Fi series. Kevin Gray is indeed one of THE best. As far as perceived 'Brightness' in some of these releases, here was my reply to the fellow below:
That may be system/preference dependent... As per many comments on the Steve Hoffman Forums about the Rhino Hi Fi releases, there have been some who feel that way. I do not, and my system is fairly revealing. I have I think 4 or 5 of theirs. If anything their Relayer tones down every so slightly the brightness of the 1st UK release, with of course a LOT more separation and dynamics and everything 😁

This release is amazing. I have a few of the Rhino High Fidelity series and each time I think this is the best one, another gem drops. If you know the album, you either accept Miles pushing into pop nor don't. I love it. I was the right age and a fan of 80s music as I was in my teens. This was my into to Miles. The sound is amazing. A real soundstage putting subtle pan effects with the Synth and samples getting super clean clarity. It's like sitting in with the band as they play. Kevin Gray really crushed this one. Soundfloor is dead quiet and really fun if you like this part of Miles work. Nice jacket and essay inside with the Tape Boxes photos. GET THIS.

Really good version of late Miles. Lots of detail and a large soundstage … but fair warning it does still have “that sound”. I was born in 1986 so this album embodies all that I simultaneously hate and find charming about the time period but I’d guess that you’re not going to find a better representation of the style than what we have here. Highly recommended!

Edited one year agoThe new master sounds great.
I have no vinyl to compare to, but have the original CD. The CD is from 1986, before things went downhill with brickwalling, etc, and is very dynamic.
I can't say the new LP is a revelation as the CD already sounds pretty good. Maybe a wee bit more clarity?
It's an enjoyable listen and takes me back to the 80's when I was lucky to have seen Miles perform.
I'd recommend to open minded Miles fans, especially if you've never heard this one. -
Wow wow wow. I've purchased all of the Rhino Hi-Fi releases so far, and as always, this does not disappoint! Pick this one up, it sounds wonderful.
