Loved this album since I bought it back in ‘84. Movement of Fear tremolo guitar lick was sampled by The Fun Lovin Criminals on Scooby Snacks -
C'est une honte d'avoir modifié la pochette sur la version de 2021 ça fait très déontologie, c'est nul, ça n'a absolument aucun sens et c'est moche.

excellent excellent pressing. I picked ups a mint copy 1st pressing for 30 bucks, do not hesitate. I cannot believe this is going for so cheap -
The sound is great!!! Big, full, good dynamics. Couldn't ask for anything more. Definitely worth having a copy of this pressing if you are a ToT fan.

The sound quality on this one is out of this world. It still sounds like a high res digital file though, but a very good one on a very good DAC … cut to vinyl.

I have been surprising people with this band and this album for a while now, very unique album and full of interesting sounds and unconventional song structures, this pressing highlights their creativity and sounds fantastic -
Just adding my 2 cents to what's already been said here on Discogs, this record sounds outstanding, maybe the best in my collection. Congrats to whoever mastered and pressed this.

Outstanding sound. Vinyl record was initially poppy and crackly but luckily solved this with a wet vacuum clean. The mix of this reissue sounds like a complete upgrade compared to the digital version I have been listening to.

Edited 3 years agoThey definitely didn't lie by stating that the original master tapes were used during production. Original instruments are now more distinct. You get an honest 3D sound feel. Not to say, that the original Pop album (US issue) sounded wrong, but this reissue absolutely worth it's price. Also i do like the new sleeve design, it comes with redesigned album cover plus FBI siege for the naked little girl.

Whether you (dis)like Gothic Rock or just unconventional music, this is an exemplary case of making thematically versatile, creatively rich, interestingly sounding album. Each song was deliberately composed to try out something new.
Though the instruments used are typical for eighties they were in the hands of gurus. Electro guitar parts by Daniel Ash constantly create strong rhythm section, his vocals can be creepy, haunting, even punky if necessary - ideal for any of this album's song. Glenn Campling's bass and synths pin-point song's composition, side instruments and drums by Kevin Haskins does the same thing.
Lyrics reflects various themes from dark satire to melancholy, anti-conformism, at times focusing on introspective, somewhat tragic things. For instance, "Real Life" and "Rain" are some of the most elegant songs about breakup or unfortunate love.
"She said, time to crush this feeling
Writing very long letters as soon as it rains
Ooh, the rain"
Besides, there is something unexplainably scary. "Slender Fungus" is so goth, that bats fly out of my mouth, when i mention it.
And boy oh boi how cleverly they've used their instruments!
- "War" has precise psychotropic synths as it's main component, perfectly suited for it's witty anti-war/anti-war propaganda text.
- "Real Life" encapsulated that heavy sense of dread, when you heart got in a trap of a *itch.
- "Slender Fungus" is full with cannibalistic sounds and analogies, it's a hardly explainable spooky song about otherworldly monster or maybe maniac: "Slender fungus kissed a fish inside a stolen jeep. Slender fungus eats".
I do wish though, that this album have my favorite Tones on Tail song - "Twist". Either way you will be in for a ride with this fantastic infusion of creativity.
