R.E.M. – Reveal

...pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Memphis Records Pressing. Such a shame and probably the reason for the complaints.

Three tries so far to get an undamaged copy — no luck yet. Scuffs, pops & crackles even after cleaning. Grrrr!

As others have said, this is a very impressive pressing, but there's only so much you can do when you crank 54 minutes of music on to a single LP. Really a shame that they did not opt to split this over two discs, because the price is that they have had to turn down the volume a lot, which in turns means you have to amplify it more than a shorter disc, which brings out the hiss and noise between the tracks. It's not because the discs are particularly noisy, quite in the contrary, but when you have to up the volume and additional 4-5 dB you will hear it. I don't think it could have sounded better as a single LP, but really, it should have been a 2LP release. 4/5 for that reason.

I have never listened to this album in such a great level of mastering. Absolutely amazing soundstage, dynamics, bass, vocals, everything. I will put my CD to rest from now on.

Mastering is incredible, a significant digital versions. However, I do believe this record would have benefited from a 2xLP edition, as the volume was stunted by it being 50+ minutes long on 1xLP. Other than that, this is a great record.

My copy is pretty much perfect. Great pressing, very good sound, no clicks or pops after a wet clean. Sweet!

I own the European vinyl edition from 2001 bought at the time and unfortunately it was atrocious from day one, dirty and full of flaws, with the A-side skipping in several places and the B-side completely distorted and unlistenable, with the greatest disaster happening on ‘I'll Take The Rain’.
This Craft edition does it justice, perfect vinyl, silent and without crackles or distortions,
maybe a bit low in volume but really satisfying overall...

My copy has some surface noise between tracks but sounds great and warm otherwise - only negative is it seems to be pressed very quietly. Still a good pressing to own overall!

REM fan since Chronic Town, and this is probably my favorite.

Aesthetically...as mentioned several times here, a disappointingly cheap production; with thin cover, generic inner with outward sealed flaps that will catch and bend, and photocopy quality lyric sheet.
Vinyl had several large discolored "swirls".

Agree with all of you! Really bad press, cold in the sound, no basses, no groove! Waiting for another release, possibly adequate for this nice album!
