      Whatever complaints people have about Plain Records, this thing kills... it's actually in a much heavier sleeve than the first pressing from the 90s, no information about any kind of remastering or anything... I never had a vinyl copy of this back in the day, just CD and cassette, sounds awful good on the turntable though. I spun this before cleaning, and it was fine, flat, quiet, cleaned it anyway because it comes in a paper inner. Probably their last classic recording, hangs together really well from "Reverence" to "Frequency"... wouldn't call it a "concept album" but it's a satisfying straight-through listening experience.

          Side 1 of my copy has a different artist label on it - Cassablanca / Gloria with song titles that I am guessing are in Croatian, very strange, I thought it was a bootleg cassette at first.

              Holy LORD... this LP is such killer jam. It is definitely my fave JAMC but beyond that this pressing is absolutely dead quiet, sonically groovy, and just blows my mind. I bought this the week it was released and my copy is still NM. I wanna die on a sunny day, I wanna die just like JFK.

                This album is essentially the JAMC chassis on top of the Curve / Alan Moulder engine and wheels. To wit: 1992 perfection. Just sinuous, heavy, clattering beats, low bass, an almost electronic backbone topped with layers of shakers and percussion. With the Reid boys overseeing it from above with distorted guitars shellacking the entire thing with warm fuzz. Classic.

                    Their true magnum opus - later albums ("Stoned And Dethroned" and "Munki") still earn the respect but none ever reached the perfection of this album. What they started with the one and only "Psychocandy", here reached a full circle. Audibly, JAMC were paying attention to what was going on in the alternative music world at the time, and the early 90s were ripe with the rave-embraced innovation (a certain Curve most likely come to mind here, especially due to the presence of drummer Monti), thus applying refreshing experimental techniques that gave this album its stunning, timeless shine.

                    Some of the ideas were audible on "Automatic" already, and here got brushed up to full effect - the opener "Reverence" is a track alone worth possession of the whole album but all that follows just continues speaking volumes - the amazing "Far Gone And Out" and "Rollercoaster" (reprised from the earlier 1990 EP), adding to it the gorgeous "Almost Gold", along with "Catchfire", "Sundown", "I Can't Get Enough", "Teenage Lust" and especially "Tumbledown" (a strong contender for a single that sadly never was, extra notable for its effective use of Einstürzende Neubauten's "Tanz Debil"). "Good For My Soul" and "Sugar Ray" may still be leaning on the electro-ish side of "Automatic" but keep up with "Honey's Dead" in its firmly consistent, truly excellent piece of work.
