The Creatures – Boomerang

Really terrific album, great songs and performances, definitely one the best Creatures albums.

Found a Promo copy with gold promotional text on the bottom of the front cover. Also included a light blue thin sheet of paper marketing the band's history, the 'Standing There' single and promotional posters for sale.

Hands down, the most intricate and enticing album of Siouxsie & Budgie's decades long career. The album is a sonic masterpiece that highlights Siouxsie's dramatic vocal stylings. The production is solid and varied and incorporates the local sounds of Spain via horns, marimba and flamenco guitar. It is the only album that I can think of that seems ethereal, yet grounded at the same time. 33 years after its initial release, it still ends up on heavy rotation on my turntable. The original CD release includes 2 tracks not available on the vinyl edition. Come on Geffen, give us a 180 gm vinyl reissue which includes "Speeding" and "Pluto Drive"! It's long overdue!

The mastering is pretty dry, never going to any extremities, as if it was recorded in a pipe. Their debut sounds miles better. Maybe due to the length - it's quite a long record.

Delightfully lovely music though.

Hints of gothic darkness in the middle of a blinding bright midday. A surreal day, maybe not Earth (certainly the music is not frigid enough for Pluto although it is sung about, and apparently real estate is good value there) but could be Venus on a cloudless day. It's difficult to capture what makes this album so good, but Budgie's grasp of rhythm, texture and movement and Siouxsie's vocal layerings and sense of dress-box fun means anything goes, at least for a couple of minutes (per song). It's a sad departure when the album finishes.
