The track selection on this compilation is odd. More than half of it focuses on songs released around "Dubnobasswithmyhean". And two of those tracks (if not more) are remixes derived from originals that are also present on this compilation: "Dirty" is a remix of "Dirty Epic" and "Rez" expands on "Cowgirl". "Bigmouth" sounds like a "Dirty Epic" remix. And while I understand that the Dark Train remix of "Dark And Long" is more popular than the original version, the latter never appeared on an Underworld compilation.
But this anthology is a great set of tracks nonetheless.

I was super lucky to score this rarity in decent condition for 3 euro. CD-Rs don't look very good but play perfectly (including extended cuts of "Dirty" and "Jumbo"). Today is a good day in my Discogs Investment Fund!

Can anyone shed some light on the 10:51 version of Dark And Long (Dark Train)? It seems different to the EP version of 10:27 especially on the 6 minute mark.

My first copy skipped at the beginning of MMM Skyscraper...I then purchased a new one, and it skips in the same place. How is that possible? Anyways. For being an old copy, still sounds great. I love this band and their music. Songs are great.

The whole back catalogue of one of the most inspiring groups of the 90s...wow!, alongside the prodigy, chemical brothers, massive attack and countless others; underworlds music transformed the music scene in the 1990s. Starting out as an electronic music act formed by Rick Smith and Karl Hyde in 1987 after their former band Freur disbanded. The first line-up released more song oriented funky guitar based pop over the course of two albums. In 1991 the core duo returned with a new track oriented technoid direction and a new ally; DJ Darren Emerson. In 1996 the former b-side "Born Slippy NUXX" was used in Danny Boyle's film "Trainspotting" and became an instant anthem of the mid to late 1990's, this track became famously associated with Gazza's drinking antics during Euro 1996!! and still goes down a storm even to this day, Paul Oakenfold for one still plays this out.
Emerson left in 2000 after the release of "Everything, Everything" to pursue a solo career and a successful one it has been to with his new record label H20 and numerous Dj mixes receiving various acclaims, in fact its good to see the post - Emerson tracks on Side F to give this anthology a real soundscape of Underworlds varying sounds, dirty epic, king of snake, pearls girls....you just don't get tired of hearing em do you!!

I accidentally purchased a used second copy of this album and discovered that a slight audio dropout occurs on Track 1 of CD 1, "Bigmouth", at approximately 5:35 on both my first and second copy, to me indicating a QC problem with the master, not on the CD media that I have.

According to the P.R. sticker on the back of a copy I have of this, it was going to be titled 'Anthology 1992 -2002' - there is a sticker on the front that reads 'underworld - 2CD anthology' the artwork is exactly the same as the 2xCD version, without any mention of 'anthology' anywhere.

                    I just found this:

While not really an essential release per se, for Underworld new comers and die hard fans and collectors, it's a must buy. Since it stays somewhat true to the Underworld legacy, it gives a nice overwiew of their extensive and rich career. Check the tracklist! The classics are all here, the well known numbers which have countless times marked and rocked the world of electronic music. If I may put it so, that just may be where this compilation fails. Unless you're determined to own every single piece of round shiny plastic with the name "Underworld" stamped somewhere on its surface, this is not the best possible way to invest your budget. Underworld fans know these tunes by heart, there is nothing new or out of the ordinary offered here, but I guess that isn't much of an argument or an issue to complain about, since this is after all, a greatest hits collection. And greatest hits is what you get.
Personally, I would have loved to see tracks like Dogman Go Woof and Thing In A Book, which are both two vintage, but underrated Underworld classics from back in the day.
But that's just me ranting over nothing. Place this in your CD player, no matter where you at, turn the volume up and let the music speak for itself. There isn't a single track here which gets less than a 4/5 from me.
In case you forgot why and how Underworld gained their impeccable status and reputation, this is as good of a reminder as any you'll come across.
