Notes
Déjà Vu is the first album by the rock band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the second by the trio configuration of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. It was released in March of 1970 by Atlantic Records, catalogue SD-7200. It topped the pop album chart for one week and generated three Top 40 singles: "Teach Your Children," "Our House," and "Woodstock."
Déjà Vu was greatly anticipated after the popularity of the first CSN album and the addition of Young to the group. Stills estimates that the album took around 800 hours of studio time to record; this figure may be exaggerated, even though the individual tracks display meticulous attention to detail. The songs, except for "Woodstock", were recorded as individual sessions by each member, with each contributing whatever was needed that could be agreed upon. Young does not appear on all of the tracks, and drummer Dallas Taylor and bassist Greg Reeves are credited on the cover with their names in slightly smaller typeface. Jerry Garcia plays pedal steel on "Teach Your Children" and John Sebastian plays mouth-harp on the title track.
Four singles were released from the album with all but the last (Carry On) charting on the Hot 100.
The popularity of the album contributed to the success of the four albums released by each of the in the wake of Déjà Vu: Neil Young's Songs For Beginners.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 148 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.] The same year, the TV network VH1 named Déjà Vu the 61st greatest album of all time. The album ranked at #14 for the Top 100 Albums of 1970 and #217 overall by Rate Your Music.
The album was reissued for compact disc after being remastered from the original tapes at Fareed Haque covered the entire album in jazz form for the Blue Note Cover Series.

- David Crosby: rhythm guitar, vocals
- Stephen Stills: guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, vocals

Edited 6 days agoI got this one by chance in a department store in rural Virginia in 1980 (still have it in NM condition) and always thought it sounded quite good. Recently, for a lark, I have compared this to two different 1971 pressings, and a Pittman is dark, with recessed drums and a generally "is this a third generation cassette copy?!" kind of sound; a 1971 Monarch is better. My judgment: a) people who complain about some early pressings of this are *not* hyper-sensitive and b) the 1977 Speciality pressing (I am not sure which others have this same master etc.) is much better.

47 years ago, I'm walking past Theta XI fraternity and notice they have a box of records sitting out front for sale. Picked this one up for a buck or so. It's really warped and has a million fine scuffs but no deep scratches. Fair number of pops and clicks through-out but the sound is awesome. I have variant 3. This was a good pressing and a great album. Do not hesitate to pick up this version.

My copy is perfect in every way! Replacement for a copy I had on college in '79. Bought it two years ago and after reminiscing over track 3 I haven't cut my hair since.

Nice pressing. Done by Barry Diament. Liked his work with the Zeppelins CD’s -
This is just a classic album that should be in everyone's collection and this old Monarch pressing still sounds fantastic! Super happy with this pressing and they can be had relatively cheap.
