Moondog (2) – The Story Of Moondog

Much prefer this to More Moondog (I guess it's silly to compare but they do have similar front covers!) and wayyy better than Snaketime Series. I think if Louis was around now I think he'd agree that those latter collections were just bits and pieces. The tracks here are, again, bits and pieces (of course, it's Moondog!) but the intentions are more focussed and composed. If you like the whole 'native American Indian vibe fused with the New York swing thing' and sounds of Manhattan streets in 1957 (like you're there sat in a doorway with Moondog himself) then this won't disappoint.

Loved it. I DO like Honest Jon's pressings of Moondog stuff. Good quality, clean and excellent reproduction.

Can't tell about the repress quality but for some mysterious reasons last track "organ rounds" is missing!

Someone tell Chad Kassem to track down the tapes for these and got a proper reissue fired up.

Not bad sound. I mean it’s quiet, no ticks or pops. Moon dogs kinda of low-fi aesthetic so why complain?

Finally, a good remaster of this classic album. The JP reissue (UCCO-5299) sounds fantastic, whereas the Hallmark release is total garbage.

Does this pressing stand up to the label’s bad reputation, or did they exceptionally or accidentally issue a decent repress? Sound quality? Any insert?

For some reason it seems like all current vinyl reissues of this album leave off "Organ Rounds", the final track.

This is the 15th title in Moondogs discography. The cover is by Andy Warhol, hand-written by his mother, Julia Warhola (this can be seen at the down right corner of the front sleeve, not really visible in the picture here).
