this is the most awful pressing/sound i have ever come across. so bad, its virtually unlistenable. anyone else has got this pressing?
apart from that the music itself is also pretty awful

Has anyone compared the sound of this to earlier CD issues? I've got the Repertoire.

This is THE worst sounding record I own. Muffled distant sounds like guitars? Drums? Are those words I hear?

This is an illegal copy. KLIMT has never got any permission to manufacture this album! Stefan Trapp, Breeze Music (Dierks Stuidos) Labelmanager.

I'm not sure if it is just my copy or the original pressing has the same issue - probably not- . The volume sways from loud a little less loud, without changing the volume.

Further to my write-up on the original LP of this (see Discogs release 995140), a few words about this CD reissue, and an error that's confused every CD release I've encountered since! Although the music is in the correct order, the track info isn't (A/B sides transposed as per an error on the LP cover) and also the track times are all wrong too. This issue restores some of joke locked-groove linking the last two tracks, but is still not complete!

Further to my write-up on the original LP of this (see Discogs release 995140), the guy who did the digital transfer from LP (a slighlty worn and distorted one at that) failed to realise the significance of the joke locked-groove linking the last two tracks and edited it out completely!
I recall my shock horror at the time. There I was expecting a super remaster from the tapes job, like Japanese Polydor's "Collapsing". There have been better reissues since, but still not one that is complete or correct! - That is unless the recent Japanese Arcangelo one is done right?

A confused piece of Krautrock history. Apparently this, the debut LP by the original Amon Düül, was originally issued as just "Amon Düül" with no title or text on the cover. I do not have any evidence to prove this, except if you check the label's and spine there's no mention of Psychedelic Underground. Apparently the silver text on the cover was added with the second pressing. This would probably explain how the tracks on the rear cover are listed wrongly, first the side B tracks and then the side A tracks.
Of course this means that now nearly every CD release has the tracks listed wrongly, replicating the error first made by Spalax. You think they would have noticed though, as with all CD reissues it's an LP transfer, and the times and track titles don't tally with the music!
The only properly done releases I know of to list the tracks correctly on the cover are the LP reissues: "This Is Amon Düül" album (see Discogs release 887707) and Minnelied (see Discogs release 402268).

But, all that aside, what of the first really significant slice of what was to become known as Krautrock? Well, I'd say it's a masterpiece of raw energy, as great and as groundbreaking as it ever was, well-over 40 years on. Want to know more? Read my feature in Audion magazine or in "The Crack In The Cosmic Egg".
