This is my favourite Bruce album. So many great tracks on here. It sounds so great on vinyl too compared to my CD copy. I love the song Lucky Town and also If I Should Fall Behind is one of the most beautiful songs. As long as it is not too early in the morning I get a few tears out with this one.... I get dry eye so it's hard to generate tears too early in the morning 😂

Between this record and Human Touch, I'd have to go with this record. I do love the title track of Human Touch, but as a project this one sures. Better Days, Lucky Town, If I Should Fall Behind, Leap of Faith, and Living Proof are great!!! -

Not been reviewed yet but I have to say this issue is superb. Lovely and loud with hardly any surface noise. -

Underrated album. Nice pressing all round with some great tracks. -
If I Should Fall Behind IS my fave track. noticed that many of the boss's songs that i adore are under 3 minutes

Is this a promo copy? I cannot differentiate it from the stock copy that I have on my collection. -
Released on the same day as Human Touch, the 31st of March 1992, Lucky Town received mostly positive reviews from the press, though the record is entirely overlooked by the man himself, barely being mentioned in his “Born to Run” memoir, and only a couple of the tracks ever being played during his live sets.
Both of these records were quickly dubbed the worst Springsteen albums ever by fans, with everyone scratching their heads wondering what had gone wrong. Lucky Town also arrived without the E Street Band in tow. With the records arriving in stores the same day, two camps quickly evolved, though most folks quickly itted that neither record was that good, so there was essentially nothing to get uptight about, where even this listener did not manage to save a single track from this album for my ever expanding collection of songs from albums by Bruce that never hung together well for me.
Essentially the record turned an emotional corner for Bruce that no one saw coming, where most of the angst was of his own making. He was now a married man with two kids and a third on the way, he had it all, with the album representing the double edged aspects of redemption and love, and that while those attributes are certainly life changing and magical, one is never quite able to escape the profound fear of losing it all.
Springsteen was ever able to escape the notion that people dislike the album because it was primarily happy, yet as I’ve suggested before, Bruce’s records were always filled with cinematic romanticism, where listeners could easily step into the shoes of the characters and protagonists he brought to life, yet here, all one could do was to be happy for he and Patti Scialfa, sort of like reading a postcard addressed to someone else, it holds nothing of personal value or interest; it simply is what it is.
In many ways this is the odd man out album for Springsteen, written and recorded in just three weeks by Bruce alone, where he plays all of the instruments except where noted, the piano and drums, coming across like an after thought, free floating, tethered to nothing, forever leaving me feeling as if I were holding an album that said or defined not a single thing.
*** The Fun Facts: The song “Local Hero” revolves around the time Bruce saw a picture of himself in a store window. When attempted purchase the picture he was told that it wasn’t for sale, that the guy was a ‘local hero’.
The album art was almost an accident, Springsteen and photographer David Rose were driving around L.A. when they stumbled across a wall mural of a desert scene in the produce district. The shoot had no permits, so they acted like tourists, quickly snapping the image, though not before a homeless person yelled out “Bruce!” and ran over to say hi. Bruce was most gracious with the man.
