Edited 18 years agoNice collection of excellent early to mids 90s tracks.
Or so I imagine. While some of this material has not dated all that well I have no doubt whatsoever that it kicked some super sinister butt when it first came out. For that reason, "enjoying" this (for lack of a better epxression in as much as it is possible to enjoy the blackest side of humanity) requires a certain mindset, specifically an appreciation for a dirtier sound and a more primitive production.
There's some very cool stuff going on here. "Raw" is the sentiment that underlies everything. My guess is that the sentiments written here were limited only by the capabilities of the equipment used to make it. There is nothing anthemic to this music, just cold, dark and painful expressions.
In less metaphysical , there's a good mix of stuff to be heard. The intro Overtures (Remastered), Lindbergh (Ocean Part) and the last three or four entries are fantastically ambient and ehtereal, with no or minimal beats and simple dark synths and a small but effective collection of samples. Then there are the stompers, the rough and kicking dancey tunes like Black Death (Muted Concept) - the same track but with no vocals, Mother (maternal instinct) and my favourite cut of all - Crate (T-1-Theme-Voiceless) --> a gimmick track that uses the Terminator theme music (and I LOVE gimmicks).
Now if only this didn't sound so damn analogue and early 90s it would be up there with the best. Age is the only thing that detracts from this. And since I wasn't around at the time I feel that much of this is lost on me.
