Agree with the negative reviews here - this one sounds compressed and almost like a bootleg.
I sold this and replaced it with a US cut based on the 2009 masters, which I highly recommend as one of the best in my collection - punchy, dynamic, and enjoyable (everything this Europe pressing isn't). -

Sounds fantastic. Nice, thick vinyl. Great pressing, very dynamic. No background noise. Love it. -
Surprised with most people praising this pressing. It would be interesting to know what equipment they're listening on. From reading most of the comments, apparently a record not being warped or with minimal pops= "excellent pressing". This pressing is Slightly compressed, mids and highs blend, soundstage is narrow and overall muddy sounding, decent low end. Listening on a Harmon Kardon Tube Citation 2 tube amp, Marantz 2275 Pre amp, Tech 1200 MK5 with Shure v15t3 ands ADS 910 speakers... I've listened to this pressing on equipment not quite as revealing as what I'm listening to now and it sounded like shit on that gear too. -
Got quite a few 'Takt' releases that sound (and look) terrible (Nirvana's 'Nevermind' for example), but this one: I always record my vinyl in hi-res, and I cannot see (or hear) any signs of heavy compression.
It looks perfect and runs through silently apart from the music.
As the overall ratings suggest this seems to be a fine pressing, even though you might get hold of the one 'Monday morning copy'. Would even go so far to say this pressing is stellar!!! -
As said under, it sounds more compressed than what I'd expected, not as clear as it should. It also pops all the time but I think this could be solved with a nice cleaning. Still worth 4 stars for the quality of the sleeve and the music. -
Edited 3 months agoIt's hard to believe that an album so packed with samples sounds so great, especially in the cd era when most of the vinyl mastered was an afterthought at best. It's a testament to what pros the Beasties were and are, and the crew put together to bring this to life. This album, this pressing, peak game in every way. 10/5. -
