Gerry Mulligan – Mulligan Meets Monk

I invite everyone to do a listening comparison, EU with US pressing. My copy is excellent. The person who hears the pressing plant gets a beer.

Really excellent KG Mono cut of this record that betters my old 80's Stereo OJC copy considerably. Both Monk and Mulligan or more in the room and the rhythm section of Wilbur Ware and Shadow Morton are more present than on the OJC Stereo cut. Whether this is due to the mono mix or Gray's considerable skills I'm not sure, maybe both. Many Jazz fans like to bag on this album and while not a masterpiece in the Monk cannon per se it is an enjoyable record. Monk is his usual brilliantly distinctive self . Mulligan, who is one the all time greats of Baritone sax and generally underappreciated these days, turns in some swinging inventive playing. My copy is quiet and well pressed. The hype sticker says pressed by RTI. I heard a rumor that Craft is going to do a new OJC of this album with the Stereo mix. Be interesting to see if that betters this Mono cut and improves on the old OJC Stereo.

Don't care if it sounds good or not. I was happy to wait for this record to be pressed at a pressing plant and was scammed.

Amazing sounding mastering and silent pressing. Mono just sounds right on this album.

I‘m happy with the sound, but I wish I could have gotten the „real“ version. I think it‘s problematic that the hype sticker says „Pressed at RTI“ when the EU edition is actually pressed in the Czech Republic.

Great album - and a great sounding pressing too.
GZ for sure has done a better job with this (than some of the pressings we got from them a few years ago).
And: Well printed and sturdy cover with the BAR-code printed on the sticker - not on the cover itself. Nice.
