looking for a decent gatefold US '73 sleeve, please reach out if youd like to sell me one -
This sounds really good with one caveat. The bass and drums hit hard, instrument separation is good, and it does not sound brickwalled (although, DR rating is 5 on this for those curious--but it's a funk album). The vinyl is dead silent. The only thing I don't like is it sounds like the high frequencies (or maybe upper mids) are elevated. I had to turn it down on a few tracks.
That being said, this is probably one of the better sounding modern reissues. I would be curious to compare it to an OG. -
Picked up a copy of this yesterday, and it sounds incredible!! Its honestly hard to imagine it sounding any better than this... It sounds so ALIVE👌🏿👌🏿especially when you flip to side B and you hear the lead in to a Cosmic Slop, you know you're in for a treat!

Edited 24 days agofor a revisionist digital reissue, this sounds really good, and the pressing is flawless. this is the only Funkadelic LP that ive never had an OG pressing of. im sure theres subtle differences when compared to an original pressing, just like the similar reissues of the first 4 LPs. but it really does sound good; much more open and uncompressed when compared to my CD version from the same era. very enjoyable and recommended.
EDIT- ive recently gotten a decent VG original US pressing, and this reissue has a very similar sound. there are some nit-picky differences, but this really does sound comparable to an original pressing. and FWIW, the blue-label US pressing from 1976 sounds pretty weak and compressed in comparison to either one of the previously mentioned pressings. -
This version sounds pretty good. I bet this album could sound better, but not by much, and it certainly smashes the 1991 Let's Take It to the Stage I have. The bass is ample enough and the drums sound really nice and punchy. Vocals go from grainy and poor to decently clear, but I'm pretty sure that's just the recording. This isn't an audiophile's band no matter what you do, but they do still have cool production in of atmospherics and musicality for sure. Surface noise is also impressively minimal.

You need it. A pressing from the dark days of vinyl: the early 90s. People were convinced digital would save music. Labels found a way to sell people the same shit they already owned on 4 other formats. Kinda like what's been happening with vinyl these past 15 years.

This is a awesome sounding pressing. A lot of deep richness in the bass. Much better than 4 Men and beard pressing
