This is such beautiful and gentle music, capable of making you cry. -

BC is to my opinion i real juwel due to minimal. They work on with the time shifting experiments that Steven Reich was doing in late 70is with real musicians ( for example https://discogs.librosgratis.biz/master/32955-Steve-Reich-Octet-Music-For-A-Large-Ensemble-Violin-Phase ). I mention this release for example because i own it in my collection and unfortunatly I played both records together in a set. Just have a try on your own. -

my favorite basic channel, this is a holy grail of spiritual electronic music, -
Edited 3 years agoAmazing pressing, the amp can be pushed right up & the vinyl just keeps giving more of the balanced dynamics on offer, one of the most beautiful presentations of another world I ever heard. I am just going to buy them all I waited too long already. I am 43 next week god damn it.

By far the trippiest and most broken BC track IMO. Parts have you seeing shadows and others parts make you second guess what you are comprehending. The most experimental of the beat structured BC tracks. Hard to not focus on this track like others. It demands your attention to try and understand it. It's so mysterious it's almost scary to listen to. Certainly daunting and challenging. Heavy listen here. Becomes more structured with more listens. One of their deepest tracks. -
Radiance is the kind of song you can lose yourself in for days (years for some of us) perfect in every sense of the word. If you could put together everything you love about techno, dub & ambient this would be the music you would hear, a truly amazing record and a truly profound listening experience. My only real complaint with this issue of the release is the terrible sound quality. The B side has a lot of popping, clicking and audio degrading problems. I noticed after listening a few times the playback quality became worse and only after a few plays. It also appears as if the low end on the A side is much more dominate than that of the B side and makes for a much more pleasant listening experience. Despite those facts its still breath taking.

This was the first Basic Channel thing I bought, in 2002. I'd been aware of the name back in '94 or so but somehow didn't think it was up my street so I never gave it a go. How wrong I was! I now regret missing 8 years of quality listening pleasure. Three pieces of absolute sublimity on here. And the thing, as Simon Reynolds noted in his book "Energy Flash", is that its impossible to recall, hum, or sing a BC track afterwards - it just doesn't stick in the mind, there's nothing to hook inside your brain. And that makes every listen a new pleasure. -

Radiance II. One of those rare tracks that's at once incredibly visual & deeply moving. My friend & i used to listen to this during the summer of 94, gazing out his bedroom window at sunset, watching the birds fly past the water tower on the horizon. One of the rare times when both of us would shut up for a few minutes and get lost for a bit. I'm often reduced to a nostalgic mess when i listen to this. Which is probably why i don't listen to it that much. And therein lies the rub. It's made such an impact on me that i can't even bare to put it on the turntable these day's. . . . . .
