This is the original 1984 recording by Prince.
The Song 'Nothing Compares 2 U' was initially released on The Family's debut album.
After the The Hits 1 compilation.
The 1984 recording was initially available to order on 7" picture disc exclusive via the "HITNRUN" online store (operated by 'The Prince Estate' from 19 to 25 April 2018) as part of various bundles (record combined with custom made/limited edition T-shirt or Jacket) and on all digital platforms to .
One day later a limited edition on purple vinyl was available at the merchandise in Paisley Park during the annual celebration and also at the"Electric Fetus" record store (in Minneapolis) to "Paisley Park Celebration 2018" badge holders only. It was limited to one copy per badge. Upon purchase, the badge altered with a star-shaped punch hole.
One day later (Saturday) "Electric Fetus" offered another 300 copies for purchase (while supplies last) for the Record Store Day 2018 with the same 'one copy per person' policy.
After the Celebration/Record Store weekend "Electric Fetus" sold a unknown amount of the purple vinyl edition online, it was sold out within a few hours. Since then they had drop in sporadic intervals some copies on discogs marketplace and/or other platforms.
A limited black vinyl edition was released one month later and since June 2019 the recording is also available on the Originals album.

in the aftermath it seems only the initial "bundle" was limited - not the picture disc itself, they just not communicated that detail from the beginning and play with last-minute panic of the collectors...

Sounds Excellent for a 7 inch record! The cover looks very nice, but they didn't line the inside of the cover to prevent the record from getting scratched. Because of this, the record gets marked and a little bit scratched. -
Screwed by the estate. Released it as made on order, with t-shirt or hoodie or whatever, and now they sell the Picture disc only for 20 dollars... nothing limited anymore.... -
Very nice release! Sounds good, and looks like a CLASSIC Warner Bros. 7".
Not a favorite Prince song of mine in general, but great to hear HIS version of it. -
The pressing is great and the song is amazing. Just wish it would have been released as a 12-inch single. -

Well I personally think a lot of Prince items currently are over inflated, but I’m not about to sell my purple copy. -
