Led Zeppelin – How The West Was Won

Just picked up a sealed copy of this vinyl box. Now with all the albums on vinyl, Remasters, TSRTS, Mothership and Complete BBC vinyl boxes, I’ve a nice Zeppelin corner on my shelf!

Only through Over the Hills and this honestly sounds so much better than the 2018 remastered vinyl (and the CD of course). I don't even have a 5.1 setup, just through a set of stereo speakers makes this sound awesome. Just uncompressed, powerful performances. Worth the 20 or so dollars!

Edit: this also has the original Hello, Marylou section in Whole Lotta Love that was cut in the 2018 editions which is also a bonus.

This one, in my humble opinion, is one of the very best live albums ever released by anyone, no matter the genre. At least a top 10 or even upwards.
Sadly my vinyl content ain't perfect concerning the 'Dazed And side, very uncommon for an Optimal pressing, nevertheless the whole box is a dream, especially for those of us who couldn't experience the original Zeppelin flying high. Never been a fan of drum solos after a first listen, but Bonzo's drumming in 'Moby Dick' is such a musical delight that any one of you will not only endure but love it from start to finish.
If you have the chance to grab this one on vinyl then do yourself a favour and stick to your chance.

I am speaking here only of the 3CD "Olyphant" pressing of HTWWW. The band is firing on all cylinders and while the performances are masterful and exciting, the recording beneath the vox and guitar are lost and garbled. Only halfway through the 2nd disc does the bass begin to find any definition and shape.
I've heard bootlegs by different bands recorded at The Forum and The LBA, from approx the same time. At worst this sounds, in parts, like the worst of them.

The only other live performance that rivals this is the Who at Leeds, Unbelievable performances here, the power, the dynamics, the musicianship. Sound quality is excellent. Do not hesitate to buy this if you get the chance.

Attention! On all release later 2003 there is more than 2 minutes of WLL- medley missing! ….. and on all releases there is missing: Tangerine, Louie Louie and Thank You and Communication Breakdown

Fantastic set. I will say though, if Pagey was so adamant on cutting roughly 2 minutes from the WLL medley to save on royalty costs for "Hello, Marylou", it was a missed opportunity not to include the full acoustic set and add one of the renditions of "Tangerine". They most certainly had enough dead wax for it, let alone space on a CD. Regardless, it sounds fantastic.

Edit: I honestly prefer the down-mixed 5.1 mix from the DVD audio to this. The sound is good here but there is a lot more breathing room in the mix. For example, the snare drum intro on Rock and Roll shocks your whole nervous system. Again, I hate that Tangerine was left off for no good reason. I just cross fade That's the Way into the LA rendition of it from a bootleg for completion's sake.

The BEST official Led Zeppelin vinyl you can buy, the performances from the band across these nights are incredible, Page especially was on fire the whole time. The packaging and quality of the vinyl is excellent too, although I am not a fan of the box design with the lid. It takes a lot of effort to take it off. The sound on the vinyl is stunning, it has a huge soundstage with a full driving bass that isn't overwhelming and supreme clarity in the guitars, vocals, and cymbals.

Fantastic box set if you can still get it on vinyl. The sound quality and vinyl quality is excellent. The song choices are also great, and the performances especially will blow you away.

Just got this. From Nr.2 : Immigrant Song youre hooked.
Just realised how amazing John Bonham was.
They all were btw.

Tracks are mixed toghether from both shows wich makes sense if you hear it .
These are blueprint masterclass Zeppelin recordings . Get it if you can !
