Does anyone know if this version comes with full-sized artwork? The edition I have came with a CD booklet. Bummer because the art on this release is so cool! -
Edited 5 months agoI do agree that the sonics are a little muddy and also I think the dynamics sound squashed a bit. It’s doesn’t sound as powerful and hit as hard as it should. Side A seems to reflect this more, while Side B sounds a little better and clearer with slightly better dynamics. The depth in the soundstage and the separation are pretty good throughout. Overall, far from bad, but definitely not amazing. Definitely could use a remaster of some sort. JJ Golden did an insane remastering job on the reissues for SDRE’s first two albums. Wish he could do the same with this one. Still, enjoying listening to this fantastic album with much pleasure.

This does not sound good. Compared to the CD, it is muffled and muddy. It’s not terrible, and if you feel like you need to have it for collecting purposes, then sure, but it’s clearly inferior to the standard CD. -
Not a great press, the CD sounds better. It's nearly 46 mins of music so too much for one disk, shame Sub Pop didn't stump up the cash and make the reissues a double disk affair.

I’ve tried a deep cleaning, adjusting the phono preamp gain and it just doesn’t matter. This album wasn’t mastered very well. It sounds fine on CD. Regardless, it’s a fantastic album and if you don’t turn it up too much, it’s still an enjoyable listen.

Edited one year agoVery strong album by SDRE. I do find this press slightly muddy-sounding, which surprised me because I do not this as a lofi recording from the CD I had 25 years ago. And the CD booklet with microscopic font is just irritating and lame for a LP release…but apparently this is part of all of the vinyl releases for this album.

Took a chance and bought two copies from Walmart.com at $17.98/ea with FREE shipping and they were BOTH the limited editions with the 1500 hype sticker and SUBPOP sticker on back. FYI -

confirmed this is the variant that looks like it’d just be black that’s being sold on the subpop store. looks awesome. mine has a minor seam split but i’ve begun coping with small ones as an inevitability. as for how it sounds… pretty good. “100 Million” has some fuzziness to it, but listening again digitally, it’s evidently the way it was recorded. maybe a little tinge of distortion/sibilance out of the left channel, but very slight if so. strong 4/5
edit: finally giving this a second spin and it sounds better than i . i don’t notice any distortion this time around. 5/5
