Updated, state-of-the-art recording, dubbing, editing and mastering facility opened in April 1969 as a replacement for the earlier Curtis Mayfield) used these facilities for various services from recording to disc mastering.

Among the mastering engineers employed at the "Mid-America Recording Center" were Don Holden, who would later relocate to RCA's Nashville and Hollywood studios, respectively, after this studio closed.

RCA's Chicago studios closed on April 26, 1972. A few months later, the facilities were taken over by Curtom Studios.
