Dream Catalogue

Profile:

UK-based label founded by Shima33 from 2019 to 2022.

Dream Catalogue is one of the leading and pioneering labels in dreampunk, a highly conceptual ambient genre with roots in vaporwave. In the label's early years they would release both vaporwave and dreampunk, but gradually moved towards releasing primarily dreampunk, ambient, techno, and various non-plunderphonics works. Despite the label's shift, and distancing, from its vaporwave roots, it is still largely considered one of the leading vaporwave labels.

The label has gone through several shifts throughout the years. These changes can be temporary changes in ownership/management (either to real or fictional people), brand identity changes, on and off of Bandcamp, defunct and running, and so on; many of these changes end up being reverted within months or weeks.

Incompetent label; be prepared to negotiate with your bank for a chargeback if anything goes wrong - you'll get zero comms from label

The HKE / Zomby vinyl seems its gonna be a scam as the 'limited to 200' preorder was open for along time and then taken down after they cashed in on it. No response from the label on any platform about it. Why does this seem to happen often in the Vapor community? Reallt lame.

An important label that has unfortunately lost its soul. They still very occasionally release good albums, but most of their new output is reminiscent of boring releases from netlabels in 2000s but repackaged as "hard vapour" or "dream punk". I still ire the ion of HKE though and the work he puts into this, and I still often revisit their older albums.

It's kinda sad how they went from one of the biggest internet labels ever to unfunny shitposters who will constantly make fun of the vaporwave community but will always be a part of it because its their only audience and they will forever be ed for vaporwave and whatever the fuck dreampunk is lol.

Worst label ever. Zero communication and vinyls quality is horrible. Made in a poor pressing plant. Don't those clowns.

Love the music this label has put out but every vinyl I've bought from them has had some issue or another. Whether it'd be pops and clicks or weird spindle holes or what, every one of the pressings I've gotten has been disappointing. I got a little carried away with buying and collecting records from them when I should've just stopped at the Birth of a New Day reissue. Hopefully their quality has gotten better as they've switched pressing plants.

The pivotal and premier vaporwave label. Try as they might to distance themselves from that lineage, it will remain. A lot the early digital releases are no more, having been taken down for aesthetic/legal reasons. Dream Catalogue has been a focal point for some of the best vaporwave releases as well as some of the scene's more controversial moments.

A unique label specializing in a particular corner of the sonic world. Unfortunately the vinyl releases Are shipped in super cheap polyethylene plastic Records sleeves that do affect the vinyl and their sound quality. Please start ahippping the vinyl with plain paper inner sleeves.
