Grapevine was the brainchild of John Anderson (75), a Glasgow-born soul collector exiled in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. John was the driving force behind importers Soul Bowl, who introduced DJs and fans to 70s Northern sounds. One of the first to make record-buying trips to the U.S., he discovered many of the decade's top Northern sounds.
The original Grapevine label, which lasted from June 1977 to the summer of 1980, with the of the DJ Richard Searling, was primarily giving UK releases to obscure US soul records that were popular on the UK Northern Soul scene. Issued nearly 50 single numbered GRP-1xx, 3 12" cat. REDC-x of modern soul and 3 compilation LPs.
In that period, Grapevine was manufactured and distributed by RCA.
Grapevine was reactivated in the year 2000 with the of Garry J. Cape, and it lasted till 2008. Issued 63 7"/ 45’s as Series Grapevine Music Group in that period manufactured and distributed the label.
