Dallas, Texas manufacturing company founded in 1967.
Active until October 2015, then sold to Josey Record Manufacturing with its assets moved to a new location.
Has operated as a record pressing plant while providing audio mastering, CD/DVD manufacturing, as well as packaging services.
On vinyl-format releases, its data often appear hand-etched into the runout grooves as '####x##', i.e. 1010x49 (see: Lucky! (Nike7up Thief In The Night Mix)).
Note that there also can be other separators than "x", e.g., hyphens or forward slashes.
A record's manufacturing date (not release date) can be figured out from the number before the "x", "-", "/" as follows:
• 2-digit number: first digit is the year in the 1970s, 2nd digit is the month ("57" = July, 1975, "75" = May, 1977).
• 3-digit number: if first 2 digits are "80" then it is 1980, with last digit being month ("801" = Jan, 1980, "807" = July, 1980), otherwise first digit is the year in the 1970s and the last 2 digits are the month ("611" = Nov, 1976, "810" = Oct, 1978, "912" = Dec, 1979)
• 4-digit number: first 2 digits are year, last 2 digits are month ("8509" = Sept, 1985, "9702" = Feb, 1997, "0106" = June, 2001)
Please keep in mind that this is a manufacturing date, so it is possible that the release date could be in the next year, particularly if the month is towards the end of the year. While it is usually safe to enter the year into release date if not contradicted by other sources, please do not enter the month into release date unless confirmed by another source. Records are often not released in the exact month they were pressed.
The pressing plant had an in-house mastering and lacquer cutting department, which was equipped with a Neumann VMS 70 lathe with SX 74 cutter head. At one point the studio was owned by Stan Getz II ed the company and worked as cutting engineer and multi-task operator, finally becoming the owner in 2007.
How to enter into LCCN:
When only a number is present, use Pressed By + sequential number (e.g. ####x##).
When the number is accompanied by an additional etched identifier such as A+R, enter Lacquer Cut At and Pressed By + sequential number.
When there is A+R but without number, then enter Lacquer Cut At.
