Town Sound Studios

Profile:

Recording and mastering studio in Englewood, New Jersey, USA, located in an abandoned city hall rented by Gloria Toote in 1966. She turned the building into a state-of-the-art recording studio, one of the largest in the New York metropolitan area. The 8-track studio was 2400 square feet. In March 1968 a Scully disc mastering system was installed. In June 1970 the studio was destroyed by a fire.

Staff engineer: Orville O'Brien.

At the time Town Sound was the only independent black-operated studio in the country that recorded major white artists. Artists who recorded here included Lloyd Price.
