This studio has its origins in Bill Armstrong (6) in the 1960s. This studio was located over a number of properties in Albert Rd, South Melbourne, moving to a warehouse in Bank St, South Melbourne, in 1972.

The studio was renamed in 1974 to AAV (Armstrong Audio/Video) when it was bought by the Age Newspaper Group.

At some point afterwards (probably in the 1980s), the studio was renamed Metropolis Audio, and also purchased by a staff consortium (headed by Ern Rose). A controlling share was then bought by the Celtex audiovisual company in 2005, but after Celtex got into financial difficulties, the studio closed in 2006.

In 1995, Armstrong Studios. The studio has moved in 2013 to new premises at Abbotsford, Melbourne.
