Profile:	Cargo Recording Studios was established in 1978 by John Brierley as a 16 track studio in a converted warehouse on Kenion Street, Rochdale. During its lifetime, Cargo became the main indie studio in the UK. John Peel called it the "Legendary Cargo Studios". Producer Ian Blackburn ed as engineers. The studio closed in 1984. The building eventually became derelict. In 2012 Voltalab Sound Studios was opened in the same building.

M.E.109 was originally formed in 1978 by Tim Crowley, Simon Crewe, Mark Slinger and Thomas Graham. Tim and Mark were 18 years old and Simon 17.

Playing in local venues they established a strong following and used the money from gigs to fund studio time at Cargo Studios in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England:

From a small market town in the North of England, it was difficult to attract interest from London based recording companies. Beggars Banquet Records got there first and with a distribution deal from WEA:
