Italian label founded by 49ers were released and Media Records soon became internationally successful as an independent record label.

Business partners were created in the UK, Spain, , Benelux, and Denmark and by the early 90’s there was a growing list of successful Italian sublabels. Together with Whole Records, Underground, G.F.B. and Inside, Media Records released an endless list of Italodance anthems, with contributions from artists such as Sharada House Gang Media Records was a force to be reckoned within the international dance music market.
Mid 90’s and new labels BXR and Noise Maker were born. With Mauro Picotto on board and with the creation of UK based label Nukleuz, these labels became hugely successful and influential in the international Hard House and Trance markets.
The new millennium and Media Records buy the publishing rights to restart the famous Italian House label UMM, International artists Joy Kitikonti are signed as the label carries itself towards new boundaries. Already successful in Japan, in 2003 the label went to New York; its mission is to manage its disco graphic repertoire in the most important (richest) market in the world: the USA market. Back in Italy Media Records founded an mp3 promotional system, sending mp3 tracks streaming to radio, press, TV and the internet.
Music production is not Gianfranco Bortolotti’s only ion, important architecture magazines wrote article’s on the original design of Media Records offices and recording studio’s, all designed by Gianfranco himself. In 2005 he created his own design company “World of Media” and retired from music production to concentrate on his love for architecture and design.
Within 20 years Media Records won more than 100 gold and platinum awards and it’s fair to say that Gianfranco Bortolotti and the Media Records empire played a massive part in dance music today both influentially and creatively.

In 2006 the label was stopped along with most of the Italian divisions, then in 2010 German company ZYX Music purchased the rights to Media S.r.l. to distribute the back catalogue digitally.

In 2015 Gianfranco Bortolotti re-started Media Records (and some labels related as Media Studio

        Ahh the memories. I LOVED Media Records and bought every release I could get my hands on (usually on tape!)

        Didn't appreciate at the time, of course, that most of the tracks were cannibalisations of earlier efforts, containing multiple, indecipherable vocal snippets and all kinds of samples.

        Their back catalogue is in SEVERE need of some remixes. Would love to see 'Touch Me' by 49ers remade for the modern age (though they keep reissuing 'I Got the Music', which was garbage, despite featuring the memorable lyric I'M SO HOT AND SEXY, I CAN'T STAND MYSELF! Wasn't Anne Marie Smith a bit embarrassed recording that?)

        A lot of this stuff sounds awful these days; I just listened to Rockin' Me by Professor for the first time since '94 and it made me cringe. But it was joyous, throwaway stuff though.

          Careful with their digital file re-releases, some of the lossless files that they offer on music stores are probably transcodes from 320 Kbps MP3. It's pretty despicable that a big label like Media Records could be doing such a dodgy practice.

            What can be said about Media Records?

            Well, what cannot be said about Media Records would be more appropriate!

            From their beginnings as Italo Disco crossovers into Italo House legends they are undeniable, and their tenure as Kings of early to mid 90's Eurodance cannot be denied either.

            Headed by Gianfranco Bortolotti, the Media "machine" produced many, many hits throughout the late 80's and the entirety of the 90's, entering the millennium in Europe as BXR (an old sub-division re-emerged) to appeal to cooler dancefloors.

            The only problem with Media Records is a simple one, but a damning one. Many, MANY of their producers simply ripped off melodies / ideas from more established artists. It started with the late 80's Acid House / New Beat craze that saw fit to use samples in tracks to bring a freshness to material, but by 1992 Media artists were ripping off entire tracks without any hint of artistic credit.

            For examples, compare Cappella - U Got 2 Know with Siouxsie & The Banshee's "Happy House" or Cappella's U Got 2 Let The Music with Alphaville's "Sounds Like A Melody". To name but two of Media's biggest hits. The wealth of thievery runs much deeper.

            Having said that, the label continued to produce many great tunes, mainly through talent such as Mauro Picotto and Gigi D'Agostino who, although worlds apart musically in 2010, can still trace their beginnings back to Media as the label who set them on their paths.

            I personally have a love-hate relationship with Media Records, for while I hate them for their shameless piracy of established material I still ire them for their invention in the face of change.

              The Promo Mix saga of Media Records (catalogue PRO XXX and title Promo Mix XXX) wasn't pressed directly from Media Records. Promo Mix was a vinyl serie created by AID -Associazione Italiana Disc Jockey- (in english Italian Association of Disc Jockey) in the early 90s. Every subscriber received, every months, a parcel with 7-8 vinyls 12" with the tracks of the most important italian labels like Energy Production, TIME, Discomagic, Media Records only to name a few. Every 12" contains 4 tracks (sometimes 5) taken from the forthcoming releases of every labels (and also of their sublabels). It was definitely a good way, for italian DJs, to have the most popular tracks (and also some rare tracks or rare versions) previously to the official release date. This service was available until july 2005.
