First incorporated in Hong Kong (company number 0019822) as 'Polydor Limited', on 17 March 1970 the name was changed to Polygram Records Limited on 9 February 1979; its Chinese name '寶麗金唱片有限公司' was added on 2 March 1979. This company was renamed 'Universal Music Limited 環球唱片有限公司' on 23 April 1999. A new company 'Polygram Records Limited 寶麗金唱片有限公司' (company number 1521129) was incorporated on 28 October 2010 and renamed on 6 June 2013.

The corporate name is once again in use since 29 August 2016, when 'Mediagate Technology Limited 環新科技有限公司' changed its name to 'Polygram Records Limited 寶麗金唱片有限公司' (company number 0946631).
