Dunhill Records was founded in 1964 by Lou Adler, & began as a record label the following year. One of Dunhill's first singles was "Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire. Some of Dunhill's most noteworthy acts include The Mamas and the Papas, The Grass Roots, Steppenwolf & Three Dog Night. Other acts who've recorded for Dunhill include Cass Elliot, Thelma Houston, Jimmy Buffett & Joe Walsh. In 1966, Dunhill Records was sold to ABC Records, where the two labels would enjoy a successful merger. ABC Records would also continue on its own as well. The ABC/Dunhill staple of artists was quite unique & talented, & obtained massive success throughout their careers. In 1975, the Dunhill label was absorbed by its parent company ABC, & has not seen a revival since then. In 1990 the label had a brief revival under the name DCC Compact Classics, until a company who owned the Dunhill name threatened legal proceedings, & the DCC Compact Classics name was discontinued. Dunhill Records will always have a unique place in my heart for their distinctive roster of musical talent & that classic black label with that rainbow outlined box logo containing the words "DUNHILL" & "abc" in their respective box icons. Bravo, ABC/Dunhill Records!
