Sterno

Profile:

Record company founded by William Sternberg selling gramophones and distributing records from the masters of records produced by The British Homophone Co. Ltd, and Sterno became a label under this company.

Sterno label records were manufactured and sold by British Homophone Co. Ltd. from February 1929 and April 1935, as a cheaper equivalent of their The Gramophone Co. Ltd. to a very high standard. Subsequent records were recorded by British Homophone for Sterno and vary enormously in recording quality and surface noise. Almost all used British masters, and later many good dance bands recorded for Sterno, but they sold poorly.
