Something that envolves so many sellers that i can' t mentioned them all. Why tf, they don't put the record in the right release. I am tired of asking "Is this the 89 release or the 98 reisuue???"

I would suggest that ALL other discussion except listing actual cheating sellers - by name - will happen elsewhere, not in this thread. And by "cheating" I mean the real thing - not delivering the goods at all, selling unplayable records as mint, etc. or a regular basis. If you have a minor issue about a record being G+ instead of VG, do not post that here. This thread should be here to catch the real bad guys.
Also, if & when you have generic complaints or issues to discuss, open a new topic - but do not post here. Otherwise the meaning of this thread is lost.
I would propose that the s would also watch this thread and take care that the content meets the title, deleting messages which do not contribute to it (including this post ;-)). This is an important thread and should not be littered with whatever ramblings.

About "questionable" or "cheating", well, that's to be decided. "Questionable" probably leads to more & longer debates, "cheating" would - for me - be more useful as it would mean fewer entries but better verified. But the majority decides, I guess. Or then the s.

Not hardly. It just advises us on who to avoid and what to expect. I have a massive vinyl collection and I do enjoy reading who has iffy policies when it comes to selling.

I am new new here also and though i do not wish to sell yet, i plan on buying what i cant find on amazon. I'm keeping my "have it" and "want it" lists organized and take discogs seriously, a seller should do the same.

I'm a relatively new seller here at Discogs, and have been an avid vinyl collector for nearly 50 years. What I'm selling are merely spare/duplicate (in many cases triplicate) copies, trying to downsize my collection a bit.
But as an avid buyer/collector first and foremost, nothing annoys me more than seeing sellers list things under the wrong release. Not sure what's worse, that, or misleading grading. I'll touch on the latter first.
So often since coming to Discogs, I've seen things like; Near Mint/Near Mint, then under additional information you see things such as;
"Jacket has drill hole/cut corner, and vinyl has a few hairlines. Otherwise perfect."...Lol

I guess some sellers figure they can list for a higher price by using the 'ol NM/NM grade without having Discogs inform them their asking price is too high in comparison to previous sales of this item. In reality, the above listing should have been graded as NM/VG+ (or NM/VG)...or at least that's how I would have graded it.

Personally, I rarely apply the Mint grade to anything, unless I'm absolutely certain the LP has never been played or seen a turntable spindle. A close visual inspection would also be a part of this. I find that most people whose inventory consists of many Mint listings to be a tad suspicious or inexperienced when it comes to grading, and would generally avoid them all together. In my experience, their Mint is equal to my Near Mint, and unfortunately in some cases my VG+. If I do come across a record that appears Mint, I'd never sell it as such because I always play-grade whatever I sell. Once played, you cannot call something Mint...at least not in the world I'm from. If plays dead silent, and appears flawless, then I'd sell it as Near Mint.

On the topic of listing reissues under original pressings? Sadly in my three months at Discogs I've lost track of how often I've encountered this type of thing.

I had a Discogs experience a few weeks ago with Roxy Music's debut LP NM/NM listed at $45.00 (Make An Offer), and I offered $30.00. I was under the impression I'd be getting the first US pressing (which it was being sold under), but what I got was the second US pressing (released 8 months after first pressing, though same catalog number) which had the addition of the song "Virginia Plain". The inner gatefold also depicted Rick Kenton, whereas the first pressing did not. Anyways, these are things any experienced collector/seller/buyer should be aware of...this seller was not. I sent him the following message;

He replied, apologized, and told me that he'd refund the money, or I could keep the LP and pick something else from his listings valued at $15.00.
I chose to keep it, and selected two LP's at $6.00 each. One was the Kansas LP 'Song For America' (NM/NM)...a supposed first pressing from 1975. What I got was a 1986 reissue with a barcode on the back cover. The barcoded reissue did not exist at Discogs at the time he listed the item for sale, so he listed the reissue under the original. I was mislead twice by this guy, who was obviously trying to make things right, and it appeared as though his mistakes were innocent enough. I suppose many buyers are as in the dark when it comes to different pressings as some of the sellers here at Discogs. But still, I felt I had to tell this guy again. This is what I said;

What you sent me was the 1986 reissue with a barcode on the back cover which shares the same catalog number. The 1975 issue did not have a barcode, as they were not used on records until the very late 70's/early 80's. Understandable mistake, as the 1986 reissue wasn't even listed here at Discogs. Just thought that as a seller, this is something you should be aware of.

He responded very politely, apologized, and thanked me for submitting the reissue Kansas release.

These errors are unfortunate, but very common with a website that's attempting to be as comprehensive as Discogs, listing many different pressings/issues (it still has a long way to go mind you). it never hurts to ask the seller exactly what he/she is selling to save disappointment. Now I always confirm with an email before I purchase anything at Discogs (good practice anywhere else to). Truth be told, even though my queries are polite, and I usually include something like "please don't be offended, but...", I've gotten a couple very rude responses. Most are very professional though.

I should add, that I never list anything for sale if the release is not within Discogs data base. I'll always submit the correct issue before I attempt to sell, and have done so with many releases since coming here. I also pride myself on very strict grading, with in-depth descriptions of each LP I list.

I'm getting a lot of sellers putting items up for 'make an offer' and then removing the item once I've placed the offer! It's not like I'm placing ridiculous differences in price.
One was a 23 quid offer on a 25 quid vinyl item that disappeared and the eventual reply was that the price was a fair one and had been sold for 25 quid! Erm, why even bother offering a negotiation?
The latest just disappeared on me after offering 21.50GBP on a 25 quid tune which may have been too drastic but considering the shipping cost to me I was hoping for some leeway. I've not even heard from this guy who has a 100% seller rating and several hundred sales which surprised me!
2013 has been a year of poorly graded, uncertainty and a fair degree of attitude when it comes to ME giving THEM money! That doesn't seem right, or do sellers just feel like dictating a little too much?

I have to add that I've had some incredible sellers too, just seems the ratio of good/bad is changing. If you want to piss people around, stick to EBay and keep Discogs a great place for certain, honest and knowledgeable buyer/sellers.

If you make an offer that a seller doesn't happen to be interested in, you can't really hold them obligated to bargain with you (much less to refrain from selling the item to another customer in the meantime)?

I wonder if everyone here knows that you can easily report mislisted items.

If you click on 'Details' for an item and get the seller's page for the item they're selling, you'll see a gray link on the right-hand side that reads "Report Item". If the item doesn't match the submission (according to their description), click that link. Then, at the top of the page, select "Not Actual Item" in the dropdown (if not selected already), and click the 'Submit' button.

There's a lot of easy picking these days (sadly), and sometimes I've spent hours reporting what people here commonly call NAIs.

But 4real, on any big transaction I personally PM or email the seller and just make sure that they give a cod about my purchase and that they have the time n desire to speak privately with each of their clients; basically, that my purchase matters. And given response time and interest, that usually correlates somewhat to response time and interest if there's a problem with the order. And unless you've done business b4, go through discogs rather than trying to save the seller 8%. I'm guilty of asking people to buy my tunes off discogs as well, but only do it on the 2nd date.

Besides, you didn't have to fuss with the record every 20-25 minutes (does anyone how long a standard 3,600 ft reel could play non-stop @ 7-1/2 ips on an auto-reverse deck? how about 3+ hours). I treated LP's more like the "master source", and used a R2R for making copies/compilations and daily listening.

It depends how you buy them. If you buy NOS sealed, yes. But, an unopened unused tape is unused and open only until you open it and record on it.

I buy them any way I can get them but my machines are all NAB and the larger tapes are getting more expensive and are getting harder to get all the time.

Also some pretty unusable tapes are being sold around now and if you buy them over the internet it's easy to end up with effectively empty spools.

Yes you can but at 15ips the tape doesn't last very long, plus they don't look their best without the big alloy reels on.

Also the 7" tapes are getting much harder to get over here, I think we dropped reel to reel as a mainstream medium way before anyone else sadly.

That's certainly a disadvantage. Besides, I don't like 15 ips for an aesthetic reason. Even if I had a 15 ips deck and even if it didn't cost extra, I wouldn't go above 7-1/2. I don't like how fast the reels are spinning .. it's like 78 rpm ... not soothing/comfy to look at.

I have a Revox A77. It happens to be set up to play 15 ips. Those speeds are generally used when someone is over-dubbing. That way one can layer the sound 2-3 times without tape hiss becoming a problem. Good S to N ratio at those high speeds.

Doing the math, 3600 feet of tape lasts 96 minutes at 7.5 ips (3600 ft. x 12in./ft., divide by 7.5, divide by 60sec./minute = 96 minutes).

If you're into listening to music on reel to reel, 3 3/4 ips may work if the machine has half track heads and the tape is very high quality. Nakamichi got some great fidelity out of a cassette using metal tape running at 1 7/8 ips.

I know of a great forum for people into these kinds of things.

The Revox cassette machines were also superb, To my ears I would venture as good if not slightly better than the best from Nakamichi.

My advice is not to "Name and Shame" in this or any other Discogs forum.

How's about you telling us if this unpleasantry occurred with 45 days (so you can open a PayPal dispute)? Instead of "naming" the miscreant, you will need to enlist PayPal as well as open a Request with Discogs:

I am a very new seller on Discogs as well. I actually found this website looking for a place where I could easily inventory my collection. The information is useful for the items that already exist, which helps in identifying items you have. Out of the almost 200 items I have listed already, I believe about 30% were not listed on Discogs, because either no one has what I have, or, I have a different version. I held off on listing anything that wasn't on Discogs, until I could submit it with the proper information, photographs, etc. I buy and sell on eBay and Etsy on a regular basis, since I sell Vintage, Antique, Handmade and Unique items. LP's is only one of the things I sell. As sellers, it is our responsibility to list the correct item. With the astronomical amount of versions of LP's, etc, this is sometimes difficult and so I see where there can easily be seller error. I buy as well, and no matter what the person has listed, I ask questions before I purchase. I believe everyone should ask on Discogs anyway, because people are not submitting their own photos of "their" LP, most often, they are using the photo, or going by that photo that was used when the title was entered. I have scanned each one of my records that I have listed on Discogs and try to enter my copy of it when possible, although it's time consuming.

As for how Paypal and eBay works. For eBay, you can look at their seller rating, that is sometimes a good indication. If they are above 94%, that's probably pretty good. If they are a new on eBay, they don't get paid until the buyer receives the item and some time es so the buyer can make a complaint if needed. If they have already gone through their initial phase, then they receive the money, when the buyer pays. If the buyer opens a dispute, eBay takes the money back, hold it, until the dispute is over. Paypal acts the same way, since they are owned by the same people. This little bit of information may help to identify new sellers trustworthiness. It makes it hard for new sellers that are reputable trying to sell their items, with no . Hope this helps.

Yeah, you think it should be, but they do all kinds of illegal things. They get away with it, because they are the biggest, but Amazon is catching up. eBay charges a fee on shipping charges....that's the most ridiculous federally illegal crap I've heard of.

I doubt that is accurate, ebay and paypal policies are designed to the buyer. is over-rated, the policy is the same regardless if the seller is new or old. If you purchase from eBay and you do not receive your item or item gets smashed by the postal service or whatever.... you are covered based on eBay/Paypal's policy. PERIOD. So it makes no difference if you buy from a seller with 25,000 s or 1 the policy is the same.

One of the problems though, is the big power sellers on eBay don't like it when "small" regular people want to sell stuff there because it takes money out of their pocket so a few years back eBay came out with a "seller rating system" crap that creates this false sense of reliability by promoting this notion that some sellers are better than others to get people to stop buying from the "little guys" but it's all a smoke screen the bottom line is like I said earlier when you buy from eBay you are protected based on their own policies.

Why do sellers have all the power ? Discogs need to address this !!! If you question a seller on a grading they have stated as vg+ or NM .. They then give buyer a negative review !!! I find this really frustrating . Plus they intimidate you by saying nasty things their going to say ! Come on Discogs sort it ... :(

I think the system of Discogs is better than that of eBay, because it promotes discussion between the parties in a dispute as a method of resolving an argument. After all, most the people are reasonable and are on Discogs to grow their collections, not just "to screw" a Buyer or a Seller.

Just started spinning vinyl again in the new year when I upgraded my home office with new equipment. I dug out the old vinyl collection and was absolutely shocked I could all the clicks and pops in specific songs like it was yesterday (more like 20-25 years). Turns out I really missed the sound.

Since the new year I have doubled my collection from about 100 to over 200 LPs. I started out buying reissues and box sets of the 180g stuff. I have been buying only pre-90s stuff I would have purchased as a teenager if I had the money, as well as stuff from new tastes I have acquired (did not like the Beatles, Stones, Doors, Zeppelin, etc. but can't get enough of the stuff now).

I started out on amazon.ca and have found it hit and miss. I was amazed to get some of the 180g vinyl so warped is impacted the sound. I also found some of the remasters sound quality so poor I have to question their quality assurance people. Some of it was so bad I have to return it. Some replacements were better, while others were exactly the same.

I switched to ebay in an attempt to by some of the original releases since I never seemed to have these issues with my old vinyl. I have so far not had any issues with what I picked up through ebay. Gradings seemed reasonable from the few sellers I used.

I ran across this site at the start of February when searching for some old Joy Division. I find the site fantastic. I have started to catalog my collection, and I love the ability to find sellers of specific pressings. I have now purchased 40 albums from the sellers in the US, Canada, UK, and the Netherlands. All arrived quickly and the packaging was good, however, after inspecting and playing each of the records, I am finding that a significant quantity of them were rated at least a grade higher than they actually are. The sellers were rated in the 99% range with hundreds of ratings, so I assumed they would have accurate listings.

Is this standard practice on the Discogs marketplace? Should I just assume anything with media marked as NM has just been visually inspected and not played? Should I ask them if they played the album to evaluate the NM grading?

Given I am new to this I question if I am being too tough on the grading. I have had some that have minor warps, regular clicks and pops, and that recurring rough sandpaper sound (what is that called?). I am sure it is not static because I have been making sure to liquid clean them when they arrive, and if an album is particularly bad, I will clean them a second time just to make sure. It does not remove the sounds.

^ It is probably a good idea to ask the Seller about each album you intend to purchase, especially those that are more expensive. For example, I base my grading on what I hearing when I played it last time - which may be 6-8 months ago. I will, however, always playgrade upon request.

I also agree about the 180 gram situation. It's all for the "feel-good collectors". None of the original MFSL or other Japanese pressings were heavy. I have a few records that almost flex when held by the edges (and one or two that actually do flex!), yet the sonic quality is in no way deficient.

My wife was buying reissue vinyl along with some newer releases through Amazon and I'd say 60% or better were warped and had to be returned/exchanged.

We don't fault Amazon, as their packaging and customer service was outstanding. They had no problem exchanging these items, in some cases two or three times until they got it right. What I've found is that the once simple task of shrink wrapping an LP has become something of a lost art. These days it's put on far too tight, and the majority of sleeves/covers are flimsy thin cardboard. Over time the tight shrink wrap will start to pull the corners causing warpage.

As for myself, I rarely purchase any of the reissue stuff. I'm an old school collector with over 30,000 LP's, and odds are I already own the original pressing. Besides, as you say, the sound quality on many of these reissues is sometimes sub-par. If they can't be bothered to list their source (original master tapes, etc), then odds are there's a reason for not listing it. Even when they do it's hit and miss, so I tend to stay away for the most part. Though I have bought a few more current bands on180 gram LP's through my local HMV and other stores, the majority of which also suffer warping ranging from mild to extreme. Someone should show these bozos how to shrink wrap a record.

As someone else here has mentioned, I also own countless old school pressings from various countries, some MOFI some not, which are nowhere near 180 grams, and they sound amazing...none of which are warped. Many of the better quality tables are able to make the thinnest vinyl sound fantastic, via devices such as a spindle clamp, peripheral ring (which I rarely use), ultra flat thick platters, vacuum platters, etc. I know my table has no trouble with thinner pressings. I actually did a test between a 180 gram reissue of Deep Purple's Machine Head vs the original UK pressing released in 1972 on Purple Records, which might be at best 130 grams. The latter blew the former out of the water sonically.

I understand some of the advantages to thicker wax, but part of me is under the impression that this whole "180 gram" trend of the last 15-20 years or so is a huge marketing ploy, and perhaps the record companies thought by releasing thicker wax they'd be able to withstand the warping caused by overly tight shrink wrap? Lol, they were wrong. Besides...if superior sonics is what their claiming by releasing it on 180 gram, how is this even possible if a poor/inferior source is being used?...which seems to be the case so often. Seems like a bunch of bullshit to me.

I picked up some of the original UK pressings of U2's War a and Child. They sound great and are very thin as well. I must say that from my current experience a thicker record does not see to mean better sounding. The thin ones better in my opinion of the stuff I have been listening to.

By extension, if something gives off the BS odor, well, chances are it is BS.

The worst issue for me is the seller that scams the postage by 50% even 100%
then say you are paying for Post office waiting time time wasted in queue and yes wait for it I kid you NOT "the ink used in the biro"

We need to list the current common postage rates from our countries
internal and external air mail so we can be aware of the guy adding an extra $20 to the normal postage rate of $15 ($35) we really don't need crass rip off sellers like these.

^ totally agree on implementing some sort of system like this. Ripping off someone with the product can be detected by scouting around and doing some sales history digging. Postage is always hard to estimate, so a link to many of the most frequently used, 'market place' countries, would be a good idea.

Hi, just had a nasty 3-day discussion with this seller "[redacted]".

Bought what I though was an original record and he sent a DIY copy, which he says is original but even if it is, it's definitely not what I expected when I made the purchase.

The sad thing is that, because it's from a band who used to do a lot of diy, I just didnt pay enough attention when i got it (4 months ago) and just last week it came to my attention that the original records are true printings and not photocopies.

Seller refuses to give my money back, unless I pay for the return shipping and after he's got it, THEN he will send the money, like I'm going to risk that.
Can't leave negative because stupid Discogs doesn't allow after 90 days, so I don't even get the chance to destroy his "reputation". Just a pitiful scammer and thief.

I'm wondering if there is any thread where i could post this more publicly?

As a buyer, I've had no problems with Discogs yet. But I'm really not fussy about which pressing I buy, normally. My main concern is the condition and over the years that has usually been as described. Generally as sellers are also collectors or at least affacionados, they respect a fellow music fan. This may well change as Discogs keeps growing at a fast pace!
As a seller, I try to describe correctly. I want the buyer to be happy with their purchase. I am very happy when the buyer asks questions first, to confirm what they are getting. It has prevented me sending a wrong disc in the past. Apart from the grading, (which although clearly defined are still partly down to the graders interpretation,) the main problem I find is the pressing. Some records have many pressings and variants and that's fine if you are very familiar with the record in question, but it is easy to wrongly list something you are selling, especially if your pressing is not there, (you may not know it is a different pressing.) Many vinyl releases came with inserts/lyrics on the inner sleeve. This may not be known to the seller.
Surely, if you know that you want a specific pressing of a release or has particular details, you would double check with the seller.

This is why it's helpful when the submission states if it originally had a printed inner sleeve or inserts - even better if somebody has gone to the trouble of adding images. Then it's easy to ask the seller if their copy has that. I do it all the time. The problem comes when buyer and seller both didn't know a record originally came with inserts or printed inner sleeve because it hasn't been included in the submission.

This seller has ed Discogs on 24th August. Large stock, positive from 2 'buyers', one of them 1 minute after the transaction, saying "I was surprised how fast the record arrived in condition as decribed ....5 stars seller". Questionable? I think yes!

Update: suddenly there's no stock at all. Earlier there were about 13 000 items... Shipping and Payment are gone as well.

Yes, have done that, The Seller still shipped the wrong and unwanted pressing then gets narked, agressive and stamps feet like a little girlie tells lies and demands I am further out of picket and pay re-shipping costs FIRST. Once the record arrives he will then refund me in full!! Why should I ever believe him? He should refund instantly in full and then make the extra payment for me to re-ship.

The dubious and deceitful sellers need to be removed. Ignorance is no excuse, if you don't know what you are selling, then, quite simply don't!

SELLERS ARE RATING ALBUMS & JACKET QUALITY, YET THEY DON'T HAVE THE ALBUM IN STOCK WHEN I PURCHASE IT. Now among other things, I have to post the Seller and ask if they're actually holding the album in their grubby little hands.

OR worse does it have it's picture sleeve?
Does it have it's optional centre intact
Is it Stereo
Does it have paper labels
Is it an IEP
Does it have a die-cut large hole
does it have a relevant and related company sleeve
Is it vinyl or styrene
Are there stickers on the sleeve/label
is the WOL biro, felt pen or pencil?

All these things a seller should and must list and be honest about then we will buy!

I LOVE this post. I have so many records and decided to start submitting them here to try and sell them, but the results have been very disappointing. I have had people agree to purchase and never hear from them again. It got so bad that I've actually pretty much ignored the site for almost the entire year. I've just checked back and not much seems to have really changed. At the beginning it seemed to be working well and made a few sales, but after that, nothing. I have lots of great records and I have them all in my possession. I have TONS of 33's and 78's that I have not even posted and 100's of 45's that still need to be listed. I'm looking for another site that might have better luck with reputable buyers as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If someone is looking for something, let me know, because I probably have it in my stash. Thanks

If sellers have a questionable attitude towards a buyer why should we give them the benefit of having their name hidden? That way they can keep scamming people while if they are named and shamed we can prevent them from ever selling records again!

Naming and shaming won't get a bad seller banned; reporting them to community will (assuming they are actually violating rules, of course).

I had an issue with a seller from once.
I normally view vinyl and sellers from as top quality but as with everything in life there's always one bad apple.
After paying up he marked my order as shipped. After a fortnight I sent a message saying it hadn't arrived. He said that a week ago the post office had returned the vinyl as they couldn't read his writing.
I suggested maybe he print out my address and tape it on the mailer. He concurred.
As the PayPal cut off date was approaching my internal scammer alert was going bell tinkle!!!
So I opened a case with PayPal in the nick of time and got my dough back. What I found interesting was his rotten for me given how friendly our comms had been plus the day after his inventory was gone and his profile closed. What a bawbag! Just bought 3 more chunks of wax from German sellers, all were treemendous!!! Are German pressing plants somehow better than most? Be interested to hear what you think. Danke

Here on Discogs, I've dealt almost exclusively with German sellers over the last 6 months or so. I find for the most part their grading to be far more accurate/consistent...though as you say, every once in awhile there's an exception (bad apple). Perhaps I'm generalizing, but in my experience here previously with North American sellers, this is what I've found. However, I've also had a couple things sent back to because the hand written address was illegible. I've spent a lot of time in , as I have family there. One thing you'll notice is the way they write the number 1...in some cases an excessively large diagonal weird tick atop the 1 making it look like a 7 or an upside down V. As nobody in North America writes a 1 that way, and we no longer cross out 7's, it's easy to see why some are confused. Even though our postal system here has a scanning device that's supposed to be able to interpret these things...shit happens.
Also, if I see a Canadian or US seller with the same album as another German seller, I'll tend to buy from the German for a couple reasons. To ship an LP within Canada it costs around $14. This includes tracking. From the US to Canada, it costs roughly the same, but for that price there is no tracking. To ship from , the cost is the same, but it also includes expedition and tracking. Combine this price, tracking capability, and the fact it would probably be a German pressing, why not choose the German option? From what I understand, Deutche Post uses DHL, which is how they can keep their international shipping costs down. Put it this way...to ship an LP from Canada to without tracking is $19.00. Add tracking, and that price jumps to $36.00!! Reverse things and send that same LP to Canada, expedited with tracking, and it's $14.00!

As for German pressings, yes. In most cases they are of better quality than North American counterparts. I have duplicate copies, in many cases three or four copies of various pressings from various countries. I find German, Japanese, and Dutch to be very good, some UK too...but every country has been known to press crap. Depends on the record label, era, plant etc. I'm a fan of 70's progressive rock, hard rock, jazz, etc. When comparing artists like Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, Ten Years After, Pink Floyd, Yes, Gentle Giant, or the many lesser known artists within my collection, my German pressings blow the US and Canadian pressings out of the water.
I recently replaced all of my Canadian and US Marillion albums with German issues...what a difference!

Borders are no barrier to incompetence I'm afraid as bad apples are everywhere, I bought an LP from a German seller and he shipped the wrong LP to me. It was the correct LP just not the correct colour vinyl, I was after a yellow vinyl copy as listed and got shipped a black copy.

It was a bootleg and not a lot of money, I kept it as I probably would have picked up the black vinyl if I'd seen it in a shop somewhere and the cost I paid was a little less than I would have paid in a shop here so I'm only out the shipping cost in reality and it wasn't worth the hassle of re packing it and sending it back etc but that's not really the point.

I expect he couldn't find a listing for the black vinyl one so just listed it under the only bootleg he could find, that or didn't really care which colour.

Sadly being sent the wrong LP wasn’t the worst thing in this guys customer service repertoire . I sent a message to the seller saying the LP had arrived quickly and well packed but it wasn't the listed LP, got no answer after a week or so and sent another and again no answer, after another less polite message I received an answer from a friend of the seller who apologised and said he was on holiday and would me on his return.

I waited until the given date and again no message, sent a another but never actually got a reply, I put it down to experience, left him neutral and vowed not to use the seller again.

This was in May last year but a couple of weeks ago I get a message from the seller asking me to leave him positive , this did raise a little chuckle and some high language as my Mum would call it, I sent him a reply explaining the reasons I couldn't really concede to his request and haven't heard any more from him. I can only assume he sent the message to the wrong person so wrong record and then when I finally get a message from him I'm pretty certain it wasn't actually for me so this one is definitely not an example of German efficiency at it's best.

I do still want a yellow vinyl bootleg of the Strokes 1st LP if anyone has one though.

It pays to look over a sellers thoroughly...regardless of where they're from. If I see a seller with 99.6 %, and they've had 4,000 sales, this means he's had his share of negatives. Do your research. I also tend to stay away from sellers with an abnormal amount of "Mint" records, as this is suspicious.
I suppose if the first couple of German sellers I purchased from sold me the wrong item, or it was over-graded, then that might impact my opinion on German sellers as a whole...it shouldn't, but it might. Thankfully my first 10 purchases from German sellers went flawlessly. Eventually I had a bad deal, but it was resolved to my satisfaction via a partial refund. From that point onward I've stuck with the same handful of German sellers that I am very pleased with. They tend to under-grade, and have a wonderful selection of music that I am unable to find anywhere else. Why would anyone deviate from that?

There was a lot of crap pressed everywhere during the 80's...even in Japan and the UK. Though the majority of what I typically buy is 70's music, the German pressings that I have are on par with those pressed in the UK during that era. In many cases far better. I have dozens of German HORZU pressings that blow away the Japanese counterparts. Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother is a prime example. Definitely much better than the original UK Harvest, or any pressed in Canada or the US during that time. I also have many German pressings from the 80's that are fantastic and are of better quality than the Japanese version of the same album. But sometimes the opposite is true.
As for Canada vs US, this is also highly subjective. During the 70's there were only a couple major pressing plants operating in Canada, compared to many many in the US. This can be a good or a bad thing for vinyl coming from either country. The US oil crisis, inferior recycled plastics, etc. Whereas having worked at the Smith Falls RCA plant in Canada, I saw my share of blunders there as well. That said, I've also seen some fantastic pressings from each country. So as I said, highly subjective.

Well I just rediscovered the seller I mentioned earlier, it's a new and new selection. But from the seller info I'm able to recognize him. Disappearing s + using currencies and postage options not related to the shipping country + given by another by same (on an earlier ) = a very suspicious formula. But I don't think reporting would help... :(

Edit: his stock is gone again... probably he will pop up with another soon. I'd advise to be careful with a seller who ships from the Euro area (usually but I've seen other shipping countries in his profile too) but has prices in £.

Give it time, if you have something somebody wants they will buy from you as far as hostage I'm pretty sure Discogs will remove retaliatory . Also when you only have 4 records for sale some may not take you serious as a seller

Ask for . It's super easy to have it slip your mind to leave , I forget all the time, sometimes I notice a long time later and end up leaving . I've sold hundreds of items on here and only have 30 .. people forget. :)
