As 2013 seem to be a deadly year for musicians or 'artists' in Discogs, I suggest to post here any death for artist present in Discogs (because some death aren't so exposed than others and it annoy me to see a musician I like die and knowing it 2 years after because he died the same day than Michael Jackson or Lou Reed)
For memory, some artists who died in 2013: Frank Wess and probably many more...)
And this week: Tabu Ley Rochereau (king of congolese rumba) -

Personally I find RIP storms embaressing. Mourning should be a private thing.
A list of dead artists doesn't feel good to me and I don't see any reason for it, besides being curious in its worst meaning. -

IMO mourning should be exactly what each individual feels like. There's no norm or there shouldn't be one. -

it's just that when you're not all your time on the web/social network... some deaths are eclipsed by other: nobody speak of Tony Brevett's death because he died the same day than Lou Reed, many reggae fans discover he's dead 2 months after... When you like the music of an artist, knowing he's dead is an information (more in a tribute way than a morbid voyeurism all you want) -
Show this post
I think this is very useful info as long as we don't get into cause of deaths and the artists' personal life (I think THAT would be embarassing). At least for me it's nothing about mourning. I hardly ever mourn over the artists personally, because I never knew them in person. But of course I'm sad that they won't be making any more music. Such dates as birth and death are important to know. And they don't write obituaries of all musicians in the newspapers. -

Lubomír Dorůžka died yesterday, nearly 90 years old.
Not a musician, but a very important music writer and organizer. He's done especially much for Czechoslovak jazz music. In particular in the "old dark times" when "jazz" was still considered evil, he cofounded and led the International Jazz Festival Prague.
I had the opportunity to visit him at his home a few years ago and chat with him about this and that, also exchanging emails every now and then. He was still active until this year as writer and radio presenter. -

What a worthwhile statement!
And I just want to say that you're not alone with this feeling of individualism. Especially on Wikipedia, each ed member can speak up that in case he/she deceases, either their real name can be revealed, getting put zero or well-chosen images on their page, or even just the profile deleted silently without any notice.
Each to their own. -
