Edited 7 months agoYeah I agree this is a fine copy. *Maybe* “Remaster” Tidal FLAC has a bit more detail in the instruments, but that could possibly be just a forward mixing choice. Anyway this vinyl runs dead silent, the mastering is problem free and the price is good.

My copy sounds absolutely great with no issue at all. Not sure about the previous reviewer, but I’m satisfied with mine. Both sides play very good and quiet. That’s why I’m giving it a five star.

referencing Ornette! (LP, Album, Mono) 1378
Another one of Coleman's best records, especially because of "C & D" (the title derives, like all here, from Sigmund Freud books, in this case "Civilization & its Discontents"). Like the album as a whole, it is quite experimental, but here with an especially wonderful and deep bass solo shortly after the opening, played by Scott LaFaro, who replaced Charlie Haden on all tracks of this recording session. The sound of this album is a bit more raw than usual, especially "T & T" is a quite savage drum piece reminding, like the title suggests ("Totem & Taboo"!), of african tribal dance, but also not without some very beautiful and catchy phrases by Don Cherry and Coleman. "W.R.U." is the main title of the album, presenting the wonderful groovy, fresh and sparkling Free Jazz which Coleman is best known for; but also here it's all a bit rawer than usual, especially regarding Blackwell's drumming. Very remarkable once again the bass by Scott LaFaro who has a solo at the end. I like Charlie Haden very much, but it's still a shame Coleman didn't record much more with LaFaro (although another - and very good - piece of this session is published on "The Art of the Improviser").
